I did it with 3 hours a week for 5 months so yes. Had no 10k times as that was my first real running experience. Had done some hiking and martial arts the years before

I think you can AVERAGE an hour a day and get to 3:00. I hit 3:00:22 and averaged ~50 miles a week (65 at peak), which equates to roughly 7 average. And I have very little talent on either the speed or endurance front (19:18 5k PR, 67 second 400m PR). But I'd doubt you could get by with EXACTLY an hour every day. Not the ideal way to train for a marathon, by any stretch of the imagination. If you have other hobbies couldn't you, I dunno, structure them so you have more time for running on some days, less on others? 40m, 90m, 40m, 40m, 150m, 60m, Off gets you to 420 mins a week and could lead to a 3:00 time, with that sort of 10k, if structured properly.
Sleep 15-30 minutes less per night?
It's doable I think.
Put down the violin for a couple of months and just train for a marathon instead.
A 65 year old cyclist I know ran his first marathon in 3:59 with 6 times a week running 10K, always at moderate pace.
And he ran even splits.
Some people perform well on unconventional training.
