I've been running and eating poptarts for about 50 years now. They are not the healthiest option, and I urge you to be sure you also eat plenty of fruits and veggies, as well as enough protein, but don't let people scare you off them.

Yeah the only thing that is holding me back and making me hesitant with eating them is the fact that they have HFCS in them, which I heard is detrimental for running.
Sugar is a gateway drug, and I am less than half-joking.

For someone who is under weight and/or running a lot, they need junk food.

That's why Nick Willis is never wins. Don't take advice from someone who takes shortcuts.

I know you're more than likely trolling/joking, but:
2008 Olympics he was beat by two dopers. 2016, he got bronze. And he was beat by two people who are suspicious. And he has two national records, in the 1500 and 3000. He has been very consistent.
Pop tarts are great fuel for runs, most simple carbs are. Sweets, cookies, brownies, donuts, chips, etc.
You good

HFCs and regular cane sure have virtually identical biological effects. Both have pretty much the same ratio of fructose to glucose.
Any added sugar is pretty bad for you
Here's a Nature paper on the topic:
https://www.nature.com/articles/482027a?message-global=removetarts and a coffee is the best pre-long run fuel.. straight gasoline
Poptarts are the perfect food for quick energy. I crave these backpacking but they don't pack well so they aren't practical. but whole grain bars and nuts just sit in your stomach hiking uphill at altitude. Poptarts would go down so easily.
Eat your poptarts, slim. Being underweight is far worse for you than added sugars.
Champion Spartan Racer Amelia Boone swears by them:
It's not the HFCS you need to worry about, rather the damaged soybean oil. It lowers testosterone and raises estrogen... So will make you slower eventually. See if you can find treat food without soybean or canola oils
Are you taking a toaster on your runs, or are you eating them cold? If it’s the latter, that’s disgusting.
I’m an ultrarunner, and pop tarts are great midrun fuel. They’re like pure sugar, so I can get 360 great tasting calories per pack. They also come in convenient packages that I can put in my pack or in my drop bag, and they don’t go bad easily like some other foods.

Pop tarts are not healthy, but as long as you eat mostly healthy, something bad isn't going to make the least bit of difference.
Lets get to the important things though. You are severely UNDERweight. Your bmi is 16.7. This is why you won't improve, not the pop tarts. As a male distance runner, your bmi should be in the 18.5-19 range. I wouldn't call a diet that has you 15 lbs underweight on only 50 mpw healthy. Eat all the pop tarts you want.
While OP might benefit from gaining weight (especially if it's muscle), he's not necessarily severely underweight. Some people are naturally skinny and still healthy. I was 5'10-6'0 and weighed 110 when I was running in HS, so skinnier than the OP, and I ate a ton & never missed a day of school or practice.

Alright what’s the status quo on pop tarts as fuel for high school distance runners. I have a generally healthy diet of oatmeal, whole grains, granola bars, fruits, veggies, eggs, lean meats/fish, steak once a week, etc. I do often find I have a sweet tooth especially after runs and find myself craving strawberry pop tarts weirdly enough more than anything. I was wondering if it’s okay for a high school distance runner (18 yrs, MALE, 5’8.5, 110 pounds) who runs around 50 mpw to indulge in some pop tarts every now and then? I understand that pop tarts have HFCS in them, so would it be more wise to resist my cravings for these delectable sweet treats? This sounds like a joke question but I am being dead serious.
Not sure if this is a troll attempt based on the weight you listed to get people to call you out for having an eating disorder.
If not then relax man and have a pop tart. They shouldn't be a staple of your but you're in high school and its ok to have a sweet every now and then or even a few times a week. If you eat healthy the rest of the time a few pop tarts a week isn't doing you any real damage.

Shes a dirty girl. Me likey!
And tbh I don’t even feel like I restrict my calories, I eat 3 meals a day and I pretty much feel stuffed after each meal. It’s all mostly healthy food tho, occasionally there will be a bowl of cereal or a clif bar in there, but other than that I eat healthy food. Idk why I’ve been craving pop tarts so much lately, I guess I’m just nervous about adding them to my diet as I’ve had this healthy diet for over a year now.
