I've been somewhat underwhelmed by her race commentating. Most of her interviews sound more fluff and light on substance. No one knows how much Galen Rupp or Jordan Hasay or anyone else made last year. She sounds like a vain idiot to share that info with anyone. It makes way more sense to me now why she and fat Josh Cox get along so well. He also comes across as incredibly superficial.

She has a couple businesses. I would venture to guess only 600k is from running related things. There is no way that NYC paid her 250k to show-up.

That's 620k without adding in speeches and appearances and other bonuses from Brooks. Her coffee company etc.

I may be high on her base salary from brooks, but I am probably underselling her bonus for a Boston win.

She WON the Boston Marathon as an American.

The salary survy was just estimating the base shoe contract.

Successful marathoners are going to do well with appearance fees, etc in addition + prize money.

Sort of crazy that we think one of the most successful marathoners made less than a million last year. She got a TON of publicity for Brooks last year, that likely is reflected in her bonuses + bump up in contract etc.

And total pay isn't a perfect proxy for worth but with talk of Sydneh McLaughlin getting $2 million a year I don't doubt for a second that Des was worth half that last year to a bunch of entities.

Look at sports like women's soccer or the WNBA and tell them a million isn't what it used to be. WNBA players' salaries max out at just over 6 figures. They're at the pinnacle of their respective sport and make what an associate professor makes.

Not a chance NYC threw her 250. If her agent already asked for that, I would have told her to look at Berlin because I already have the defending champ (Flanagan) or trying to get her and that's more important. Not to mentioned getting or trying to get Huddle too.

She has an brewery and coffee business which I imagine yield at least 150. I think it's likely she made more money speaking and doing random endorsements (200k) and Brooks probably paid her more like 400k - 500k. Serious.

On another note, an MLB player just signed a contract that gets him 1.6 million a GAME. And some people find it hard to believe that one of americas most popular runners isn't going to grab a mil after winning the most historic marathon in America, probably the world + endorsement/business money.

I think it’s a good thing that this has become public.Most young American runners are under the impression that the pros are starving it will help more young Americans to try and chase the dream.Who knows maybe a few will be successful and win us some medals.
