Well, 5 weeks was enough for Jonesy to run 2:08 and his half marathon pr was pretty close to the 61 Ritz recently ran. Still think Ritz will run around 2:11 Monday.
In his five weeks leading up to his 2hrs 08mins 05secs World Best run in Chicago in October 1984, Steve Jones clocked up weekly mileages of 100, 84, 71, 71 and 100. Here is a reprint from his training diary relating to the details of his final three weeks.

You guys do realize Ritz isn't a middle aged mother of 3 who never trained for anything in her life deciding to run a marathon in 8 weeks right? He has a lifetime fitness base going into 8 weeks of Boston specific training.
If I were Ritz, my biggest road racing regret would be that I didn’t take a proper stab at Ryan Hall’s half marathon record.
I’m surprised Rupp didn’t go after it either.

Should. But he can't. Can you please remind us when the last time he finished a marathon in under 2:10 was?

for all but like two guys in the world, a marathon is a total crap shoot.
for the average world class guy, it's about 1/3 chance they bring their A game.
and if you're battling a bit of injury or coming back, it's more like 1/6 to 1/10
look at every marathon, where you have 10 guys sub 207, and two or three go 207.
so ritz knew his training pointed to a 207 type effort,
but it was only like 15% chance he's bring it on the day.
Yeah, I thought I was gonna win the 40-44 to age group but a bunch of newly minted 40 yo masters runners carpet bagged the race and I came in like 3000nth place. Who do they think they are?
