Hey T Funke - apologies for the thread hijack - but my wife and I are visiting EDI this summer, and I would value any input you have to give: things to do, food, touristy stuff, stuff that only locals would know to do... history, castles, hikes, attractions, and the like.
And thanks so much for the running info you have already provided!
Hey, sorry theJeff - missed the updates on this thread previously.
How long are you up for? Whereabouts in the city are you staying? Will you have your car with you or just looking for central things to do?

We will be up there from the 20th-27th, staying just east of Inverleith Park. Not planning on getting a car, unless you can think of a compelling reason to get one...
Any tourist traps to avoid? I assumed we would take a day trip to St. Andrews, for example, but I have heard very mixed reviews on that one.
Gonna be running most every morning, and I got us registered for a Park Run. Any early morning runners over there?

A week's a decent amount of time so I'd consider a day trip to Saint Andrews for sure if the weather's decent. The beach is pretty special to see if you're a Chariots Of Fire fan (unfortunately you've missed the run -
https://www.entrycentral.com/chariotsbeachrace) There's also these amazing putting greens called The Himalayas which are good fun if you like golf. Town centre's pretty nice, you can walk through it and visit the Cathedral ruins. If you hired a car for the day you could stop at Anstruther on the way back and visit the famous fish & chip shop / wander around the harbour. If the weather's good, that's worth a day trip.
Also, again if the weather's good, and you like walking, I'd look up walking back through the Pentlands range from Nine Mile Burn. You can get a bus out there, and walk back over the West, East kips, scald law, Carnethy, etc and come out at Flotterstone. Or you can continue on to Hillend. Buses back again from either. Check out some sites on the Pentlands walks, really worth doing on a nice day.
Looks like you'll be close to Stockbridge - The Stockbridge Restaurant's really good and not too pricey if you're looking for somewhere for nice meal out. On the cheap side we're loving going to Tuk Tuk at the moment. Really good Indian which is also byob. Passorn is a superb Thai restaurant if you're near the Meadows one evening.
But sadly you'll just miss that Seven Hills Race which is on this Sunday.
Anyone doing the Parkrun tomorrow (22/6/19)?
Gonna hit Innocent RR Wednesday morning, if anyone wants to join?
Quick update. My wife and I were able to figure everything out with my company and we’re arriving in Edinburgh on July 9th.
If any one the awesome people who helped me out on this thread want to meet me for a run after the 9th, I am currently in shape to run for max an hour at 7min pace (slower is great too). I’m not on this site that often, but I’ll try to keep an eye on this thread.
Did you know Edinburgh is named after the Garden of Eden? And Scots (and other Celtics) are the original Israelites. Moses, Noah, David, Solomon, Jesus are described as pale blushing skin with red hair, shepards, play stringed instruments, non materialistic, obsessed with bloodlines (clan) and very independent. Sounds like the Scottish to me!
Hi, I just saw your post. My offer still stands, I'd be very happy to run with you I've been injured, so I am a little out of shape, but let me know when you are free, and I'll show you some routes
If I'd seen your post, I would have joined you, TheJeff! What did you make of Edinburgh, and are you still here?
