I ate there once, in 1986. We didn't actually know Alberto was working there. We were having incredibly slow service to our table, so asked to speak with a manager. Who should show up but the Boston and NYC champ! We were all blown away and had to control ourselves from asking for his autograph. Long story short, my Caesar finally arrived, delivered by the man himself. Alberto Salazar proceeded to toss my salad. We walked away impressed with the level of service after such a poor start.

OES is a Eugene stalwart. Sounds like your buddy has a load of both bad facts and sour grapes.
Oregon Electric Station is the finest dining available in Eugene. It is a quite well done restaurant. I have dined there twice and very thoroughly enjoyed it. Dining in the train cars is a unique experience.
OES is not even close to being Eugene's best restaurant. I've been eating at OES since the mid eighties, it's the type of place you go with large groups, family get togethers, etc. OES compares to the McKormick and Schmicks chain.
Nothing against OES, it serves it's purpose, but it's nowhere near Eugene's finest restaurant.

Not with the intent of argument but curiosity- what are your favorite restaurants in Eugene / would say are the best Eugene has to offer? Everyone seems to have very varied opinions.
Excelsior and Marche come to mind as well established and far better than OES. I'm talking local organic vs. Cysco corporate distributor level quality. But hey, some people think Olive Garden and TGI Fridays are acceptable so...
