Asics coming out with a carbon spring shoe end of February?

Just tried them on...coming from someone that has both the original VaporFlys and the newer ones with knit uppers, and the Adidas sub2, the Asics shoe is entirely different.

I don’t know about racing in them, much less running in them for very far. A light shoe by Asics standards (probably between a Peg 35 and Peg Turbo in weight), but nothing special about the weight. The upper is nice, but had a lot of problems in the heel. Very loose there. Not especially narrow heels either. The rocker in the middle of the foot is ABSURDLY NOTICEABLE. It’s almost like a Karhu (European brand with a fulcrum-esque form built in), but waaaayyyyy more noticeable. Very different shoe from anything I’ve tried on before. If I’m standing flat on my toes, the heel sits at least 1.5 cm off the ground. But if you really like running on your tip toes...maybe you’ll dig it. I plant a bit too far forward relative to the middle of my foot anyways, and this was still bizarre to me. Outsole was unique. Haven’t seen the type of material that covers it before. Felt like a slicker crystal rubber. Pretty thin web of an outsole.

So there you have it. If any Asics sponsored athlete is actually racing in these...that just seems implausible to me.

It looks like your typical bloated ASICS shoe with a rocker.

$250? That's not good. I don't get that if true. We've got to compete, on high prices!

On second look, it looks like an Ampla with continuous sole instead of the break.

I'd try them for $100-150. For $250, I'll get the 5%.

Did you actually run with them? What if they are super efficient? The VF feels weird when you try them on casually. All mushy and unstable.

If you didn't actually run with them, I nominate your post as worst of the year for slamming a brand.

These look like gimmicky shoes found at shoe department.

Aside from the hyperspeed and the botched 451 has Asics contributed anything significant to the running shoe market aside from throwing money at Hall?

I loath Brooks but Asics is a more laughable brand..Nobody wears them.

To follow up, yes I ran in them (albeit slowly). Perhaps I should clarify some of what I was intending in the prior post. It is not a poorly made shoe, it is an incredibly unique shoe.

First, I say no pros will likely be racing in it, because it’s not a racing shoe. Unless Asics said it is their answer to the Sub2 type shoes then that is just conjecture due to the price point. The “Meta” line of Asics shoes (thus far the MetaRun , MetaRun 2, and now this one) have all been listed at $250. So this is the norm for this. The comment about not racing in it had nothing to do with the quality of the shoe, just rather the intended design of it. But hey, I could be wrong on the purpose of it.

Second, this is not “slamming a brand”. If you want to try an excellent new Asics shoe for some faster running, try the new DS-Trainer. Best one in the line since 2010. Yes, I’ve tried every one since then.

The MetaRide could be a fun, it could last 5000 miles, I have no idea. But in case you wanted to take an evaluation out of proportion, here’s the clarification. Front half of the upper was great for what it’s worth.

yeah I was going to say this shoe appears to be running directly on the foam block without any rubber tread to save weight which a few shoes have attempted like the New Balance Beacon but no idea what that is going to do to traction in the rain/wet with painted road lines, etc.

and because it's Asics, yes there is a BIG HOLE ON THE BOTTOM, aka stone-trap, so stupid

appears to connect to that vent hole out the back, maybe the foam gets really hot from impact

Yup.

7 months later and Asics still has not come up with an equivalent to the vaporfly 4% or next % that has been released. Sarah "appearance fees" Hall got to run in the in the prototypes Berlin, Twin Cities, and in NYC. Other Asics athletes got to race in the prototypes. In all likelihood, the prototype is a weak substitute for the vaporfly, which is why they have not released it yet. Enjoy the over 10 oz, overpriced, daily trainer Metaride, which is a disappointing shoe Asics fans.

Nike will always be one step ahead. Asics, Brooks, and Saucony that don't have the BALLS to release their product to the public should be ashamed of themselves. I hate when Nike runners run in a shoe before its released, and I think it is wrong for them for pros to have shoes before the consumers, i.e. what happened with all three vaporfly versions and possibly the alphafly. At least they had the strength to release their shoe to the public. Hoka One One released their shoe to the public. I believe in capitalism when it comes to the shoe market. Everyone puts their best shoe out to the public and let the market decide which one is the best, not the weak athletes and shoe manufacturers that are shooting themselves in the foot and losing profit by the minute.

Nike #1. Hoka One One #2. Every other shoe company that has unreleased marathon racers personify weakness.

Still getting used to them, but I am kind of liking the Asics Glideride. Definitely unique. Not the fastest shoe, but its a promising long run option. If they had a lighter version it could be very interesting.

I'm running in the racer now... I think that folks will be surprised when it's released. (I have no clue what their timeline is)

well they have the EvoRide coming out this spring that's still a trainer but lighter than the glideride. then they'll have their racing shoe sometime this year hopefully
