Here's some rational analysis:

The other parts of the world that mean anything in the 800 (aka east and southern Africa) barely race indoors. It is really just North America and Northern Europe that do so, and far more so North America. When they DO travel to race indoors, they don't generally do it on flat tracks, because why would good meets like Stockholm, Birmingham, NBIG, Millrose etc ever use flat tracks?

Getting excited about an "indoor flat track world record" is like bragging about swimming records set in a 25-year pool. Interesting trivia at best.

Want proof? Who held the "indoor flat track world record" in the 800 until just now? Mark Everett. Great runner, but do you REALLY think he is even CLOSE to the top of the global list over the 90s/00s/10s???

Right. It was slow for a world record, but it indicates that Murphy is on his way back to 1:43 shape this spring.

Aren't NCAA meets contested in 25-yard pools? I would brag about having an NCAA record.

While a flat-track WR does not indicate that Clayton Murphy or Ajee Wilson are the best in the world (no one said that), it does indicate they are in great shape and we can expect good things this year. Why do you jerks have to chime in and crap all over it?

That's not true at all. We know why you PC NPCs nut hug the guy but c'mon. It's getting ridiculous.

That said I wish Brazier well and hope he can completely get over the big meet jitters that hit him too often. And the guy is right about Murph. Not a lot of speed work.

This. Americans love finding ridiculous stats to try and make their white-bread B Tier runners sound impressive.

Now that's not to say Murphy and Wilson specifically aren't top dog runners at their best, cause they are, but they will never be good enough for legitimately competitive world records. This is equivalent to breaking the 200m Hurdles "world record". Just another reason to boast an okay performance in an extremely noncompetitive event. Who cares.
