I’ve tried on the Boston 7 and definitely go a half size up. I own mizuno shadows and raced a half in them and still do tempos and workouts in them but for how heavy they are I wish they had more cushion. I feel beat up after even 12 k in them. Also when you get fatigued and form is sloppy they start to feel like dress shoes. I do not like them unless I’m running 4 min/k pace or faster. I agree though the upper on the shadow is really nice.
I just bought the adios 4 and it feels like a smoother transition and actually more cushion off the bat than the shadows. I’m going to run a half in them but don’t think I would use them for a full. So my vote is Boston or adizero tempo. I think both of those shoes are lighter than shadows.
I also have my eye on the Hoka Mach 2 which is just being released this month. Looks like it could be promising for workouts or marathon race shoe.

I know the Boston works for a lot of people, but I could barely run 10-13km in them without getting forefoot pain. I would recommend the OP also try some offerings from Nike, as I believe they may fit his criteria. As an example, I didn’t have any foot pain when I switched to the Elite 9s, no matter the pace nor the distance. Haven’t tried the Speed Rival 6, but it’s supposed to sit between the Streak and the Elite.
I've been in DS Trainers since I think the DS Trainer 12 or so. It used to be such a good shoe and nothing else really compared to it. I feel like over the years though they've started getting a little bulkier and definitely less durable. I have to switch them out ever 300 miles or so now, but I have a pair of DS Trainer 18s I think that have close to 800 miles on them. I tried on the Boston Boost but it wasn't really doing it for me since. It was a little too soft and too neutral for me. I also would suspect a show that soft wouldn't last terribly long?
I ran a couple marathons in the DS-Trainer and as the OP said, they are ok.. but not great for that long of a distance.
I switched to the Adidas Boston (versions 4 through 7) and they are great for the full marathon. Heavier in weight, sure, but over the long haul, the extra Boost midsole is nice. Hard to go wrong with this one. Go 1/2 size up with the Boston 7.
Another worth looking at is the New Balance 1500v4 and now the 1500v5. That is a great long distance shoe. Has a tad bit of support like the DS-Trainer does, but anyone can use it.. even neutral runners. The 1500 is very nice. Similar in feel and weight to the Boston.
Forgot about the NB 1500. Definitely worth a try on as well.
