I don't think there is any doubt Lindsey would be in the top 5 in the country in the Senior National Championships.

I made a comparison between 3000m run and 3000m SC and found the difference to be about 9%. Then I did a conversion to compare full mile times to 2000m times and assumed a similar 9% difference between 2000m running times and 2000m SC times.
6:39 converts roughly to the equivalent of a 4:43 mile. This is pretty decent.
Give me a break, there are 11 women who have declared for nationals that have run faster than 10:10 for the 3K steeple. This girl would have to have one helluva race (or be sandbagging at NON) to beat 7 of them right now...
Here are a bunch of conversions for 2K 6:39.6 up to a 3K for running. Assuming the hurdles are spaced the same in a 2K and 3K and assuming they're the same size, I'd expect the conversion to be reasonable. Depending on which method you believe, Fergy would run 10:16 to 10:28 in a 3K steeple chase.

The question was intially directed at me but I don't see why individuals are diminishing a Junior in High School performance by comparing her to seniors. I made a comparison as to her time against women in the 2000m world list. The fact that Lindsey was in a high school competition and won handily may point that she PROBABLY could have run the 2000mSt faster. Most distance high school records in the past were set by outstanding athletes in open competitions.
While I don't think Lindsey would place top 3 at USATF THIS YEAR, I do think she could run faster than her 2000m HSR which indicates a time of 10 flat is possible this year. I am more excited about the prospect of her continuing to improve and have a shot at a WORLD JUNIOR Steeple medal in 2006.
I agree with weary...I think to be that far behind the leader isn't that great...you need to be ahead of their times or at least close to them....
Her brother Bryan goes to Ithaca College and runs XC. She's faster than he is. Maybe they should ask her to be on their guys team.
I was always under the impression that for the 3k steeple... the conversion is just about what you could run for a 3200(give or take a few seconds). So saying that ferguson could run sub 10is alittle outlandish, perhaps maybe around 1015-1020? Regardless still a great run for her.
So then why isn't she going to jr nats? She told several reliable sources that she was going and now she's not. It's pretty simple, she's scared of Marie Lawrence (understandably so). It wouldn't be so bad to race against college girls and it would even be "acceptable" to lose, but the national record holder would surely be "doubted" if she was to lose to Mel in the 3000 steeple. The easy way out would be to just end the season with a national title against NY athletes then to go to jr nats and lose against an elite national caliber. I guess we'll never know.
i must admit i think mel will do awesome in steeple
(and maybe that will pave the way for some other good distance runners picking it up)
mel isn't that tall either but aren't the barriers only set at like intermediate hurdle height anyway? (or at least the steeples i've run are i'm not sure if it's different in college)
Lindsey will be officially recruitable in July, I wonder where she will go? I imagine the big name schools?
First we'll have to find out who recruits chickens.
Maybe she'd be better off sticking with a "farm" team.
she's pretty cute actually... that girl on her team who took second is bangin though.
marie lawrence only ran 10:40 (and the race was run in 10:37) somehow her 6:39 2k steeple seems better than either of these marks so maybe she wasn't scared of the competition just not feeling the need to fly to california
She would have won easily. She just knows enough not to do too much. Aren't you the guys who six month ago complained she was doing too many races????????
Hey Mr. Ferguson is that you on here again boosting your daughter?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

First, the extra 1k is much harder.
Second, Mel raced the day before and won the 3K.
Third, this was Mel's first time racing the event.
Fourth, conditions at that aweful facility in Carson have not lended themselves to fast times. Lindsey Allen is no slouch and she ran a 10:37
It would have been nice to see Mel run against the best HS steepler in Ferguson. Give Mel the time to learn the event and I believe she would dominate. Her XC skills and strength would be great gor the steeplchase.
A bad thing about track and field is that people always try to compare the stayed home runner with their personal record against those who raced and won under the current conditions. Even worse you are trying to convert a time from a race 1000m less with hurdles. Lindsey Ferguson didn't run the race nor has she even run a 3000m SC race all season. She had the opportunity to race a 3000m SC with competition but she didn't. She could have obtained a more accurate indication of where she was at with 3000m SC but she didn't. But attempting to take away the accomplishments of the winners who ran the race does nothing but attach hostile feelings towards Ferguson who stayed home. It is disrespectful to the athletes, the fans, and the sport. If it is so important to make these comparisons on Ferguson's behalf then she should have run the race to begin with. That's what track and field is about - head to head competition. As a fan I would have loved to see the result on the track not on a message board. I don't even know Ferguson and now I can't stand her just because people are touting her on a message board over a race she didn't run. Ferguson lost the race when she chose not to race!
a 15 yr old british girl ran 6.43 at altitude this year.
Which of Emily Pidgeon's performances do you think is the most impressive? (By that I mean best time.)
