Shalane and Desi will not be close to the winners.

This is going to be an interesting race.

Shalane has shown that she can close really fast in the last few miles if the pace is slow and there are a couple of very fast half marathoners in the field. I don't think that Mary and Vivian would like to give them a chance to outkick them in a slow race, so I expect them to push the pace from the start. If they can get the pacing right, they are likely to go 1-2 as they are a notch above the rest of the field. It is not easy to pace properly in New York, though, as the course is very irregular; there is a non-negligible chance that one of them or both will blow up out of an insane pace (that has happened already a few times in Mary's career) ; in that case all of the podium spots will be up for grab.

With that weather prediction and an honest pace, NO WAY can Shalane or Desi win.

But what does her ottoman think? And has anyone interviewed the dining room chairs yet? They might have a different opinion.

Shalane is there for the money! She can't win but will put on a show before the race. No warm up races, kinda weird!

This should be her last marathon.

Reliably, Shalane is in very good shape. I see her taking big risks, going out fast with Keitany and Cheruiyot. Huddle will do it too.

It’s unlikely an American will win but I think Molly, Allie and Shalane will have a great day.

They have such great stories this year... I’d be happy with any of them winning.

I guess that's my pick. And I'm not saying Kietany and Cheruiyot for sure go 1-2, I just think they're strong 1-2 picks (obviously) with the 3rd-seed being a toss-up.

Shalane hangs on but comes in 6th or 7th.

hard to believe that huddle, ali, and desi could all beat home vivianne or another non-american. what times are the three capable of, in your opinion?
