Sarah Sellers: "No matter what I do next, I’m going to be a disappointment to people."

There will be about 40 women who run the A standard during the window. That is not that impressive.

This is just dumb, she has world Marathon Major second place. Regardless of what her "real" ability is that is what happened and people will take notice.

Can't really be saying ohhh these dozens other girls could have done that too if the stars had aligned - reality is they didn't get a $70k paycheck and Sarah did. And it's highly unlikely most any of the "top" unsponsored girls you mention ever will.

It's not like Sarah is trying to get the attention - so its hard to understand why your hating on her. In comparison to Gwen J. her her expectations are much more realistic. Had she tried pushing herself post Boston she probably could have gotten the same kind of cult following, but instead has been very gracious and complimentary of others.

Boston is not a WMM.

She should be a source of inspiration to any runner who works a demanding job and burns the candle at both ends to achieve their running goals. Good for her.

She used to only do workouts she could definitely complete, but now she's pushing herself with hard workouts that may be beyond her abilities. And she puts it on her social media to be judged by naysayers like you. Should she be doing easier workouts so she can check off 100% and have your approval?

When I am having a bad day at work, I don't just call it quits and get in my car and drive home. That's not how it works. I understand that elites don't have a conventional job, and that they do need to consider things like injury risk, but nonetheless, they still have an obligation to their sponsors, coaches, fans, race organizers etc. to give it an honest effort, and not just throw in the towel because the weather sucks. This girl sucked it up and finished, and in today's world of moaners, groaners, whiners and elites who have as much toughness as Steve Jones had in his pinky finger, I have to give her some serious credit, and best wishes as she continues her running career.

She can post all the excuses she wants. If she can finish 95% of workouts because shes running too fast, what is she going to do on race day. Drop out at 35km and say "well i was running 225 pace" GTFO! She's emotionally unstable, needs to adjust everything to make herself feel better. Can't wait to see her "adjust" NYC marathon. Or see her post after the race, saying how she had no one to run with and she wasnt prepared for that and thats why she stopper at XX mile.

Sponsorships are not about having the fastest time. They are about appealing to customers and selling shoes/apparel. North American women "hobby joggers", who make a considerable percentage of running-related purchases, may relate to and admire a person like Sarah much more than other elites. And although this is a stereotype, I'm guessing women spend more, per person, on running clothes than men. Plus, Sarah is cute and approachable. If she had kids, she could get a sponsorship for jogger strollers.

Allie K. vs Sarah will be more interesting to me than some of the potential winners. Looking forward to watching the recap after the race.

Also, I wish Gwen was running this one instead of Chicago.

The weird thing about Boston is that it felt like a lot of the elite women quit at 40K. Am I imagining that? It was like how Kenenisa Bekele quit at 41K this past weekend.

The conditions at Boston was probably 1 in 10,000 in the combination of cold, rain, and wind. Sarah Sellers just happened to have the right pace, body fat, and choice of gear. Everyone who race was at borderline hypothermia. It wasn't about toughing it out. If you didn't run it's hard to describe.

Her form is kind of mediocre, it's hard to believe that she will do any better in any other race.
