How do you know her coach is conservative? Has her training been made public?
She's a really good HS runner, but we've seen this story before (with some variation), and the ending is often quite unpredictable.

I guarantee you there are more girls in HS that can jump and touch the rim than can run as fast as Sydney. Just because you are a 5'6 male who can't touch net doesn't mean that touching the rim is unheard of for women.

Sydney played soccer and basketball most of her life, she's still really new to running.

2) 31:45 10k pr, but only 16:16 5k this year and 73 min half
3) 33:10 10k this year
Behind:
5) 33:06 10k this year
6) 15:56, 33:46 this year
Sydney threw down a monster performance. She ran faster than legit collegiate runners and decent pros. Look out for her the rest of the season.

LOL did you read the part where I wrote: "It was near impossible to rate the course given that there were very few reference points." This has nothing to do with the validity of most speed ratings.

Seems a good kid who has been fast for a long time. Grew up in my town, and a year older than my younger daughter.

Middle school XC races were pretty comical. My daughter was running about 6:20 pace for second place but Sydney was turning over 5:30 or so.

I recall when she won the MA state 8th grade meet, and the announcer asked her if she was looking forward to HS XC the next year. Her reply, "Not really. I will play soccer in the fall!! "

I'm not sure how much a 5'10" frame (or touching the rim) benefits a distance runner. Even in men, the fastest runners skew towards 5'6"-5'8".
