True. Net income vs gross income.
I still wonder if some of these races are money scams
They are definitely not money scams, they are quite utilitarian in that it is rare for a race to not pay the advertised prize money, not make their charity donation and meet the expectations of the event participants. What more can you ask for? With that said, most participants don't know or care who the beneficiaries are. The average runner simply wants to start on-time, an accurate course, accurate timing, water, a t-shirt and perhaps a medal and photos and could care less what happens to the money. Road races are expensive, complex to pull off and unless it is a medium-large race 2000+, net of expenses there isn't much profit. Most small races depend on sponsors and don't make a profit from entry fees.
I think a lot depends on the race in terms of people knowing the charity. For instance in my town we have a few races for causes like shoes for Rwanda. Well that is right in the name of the race so people should be pretty aware. Plenty of local races have some sort of beneficiary but then it is not likely people know.

So do you do races where the RD has to pay the cops to stop traffic?

Most low-life scumbags feel the same way. I guess that's kind of how it works.

I've never been to Oregon. I went to California once and hated it.
Texas does not share ANY of the culinary, cultural, religious, demographic, or climatic similarities with the south.
Now, just north of Houston, there are a few blacks and hillbillies still fighting over the rebel flag, and there are a couple christian churches there. Theres some clouds and rain there too. That's the ONLY section of Texas that even remotely resembles the south.
The rest of texas is extremely highly intelligent, desert, ethnic minority, Muslim, artistic, in tune with nature, and diverse. The rest of texas is filled with saloons and sandy sahara-esque deserts, even much more than Nevada is.
I think you are only talking to me about what the u.s. census bureau says. I already pledged my allegiance to the flag of the republic of texxxas, and I swear to fukcin GOD I will keep that promise. I will live on this dry barren texas ranch for the rest of my life, running in the desert sand.
Ok, that is all very nice. But it doesn't change the fact that Texas is in the South, not in the West.
If you enjoy living where you live, I am happy for you! Lots of other people also enjoy living in the South. I would go so far as to say that in my mind, you embody everything positive and beautiful about the Southern desert state of Texas. You, my friend, are the American South, and I salute you for it.
If you would please make a video explaining to us how you are the true representation of the American Desert South, I would really enjoy watching it. Maybe you could shoot some extremely accurate holes into some boxes to punctuate your point about being the true and original representation of the American Desert South.
The link that you sent me from the American cencus bureau says that everything in texas west of van horn is classified as the west. So even the cencus bureau says that the final 300 miles of texas is part of their western division of voting, statistics, whatever else they do.
I would rather go by culture and geography than what so white man behind a desk drew up on a map and said let's call this the south just as a nomenclature and boundary for our little 10 years statistical surverys

This the430miler vs. theoniongoat debate is the best thing I've read all month! It's like Ali vs. Frazier of Internet debates.

Agreed, let's go by geography and culture.
So first, geography: Texas dead in the middle from east to west, so we know it isnt one of those. So is it north or south? It is the second most southern state. The southern most point of texas is only 40 miles north of the southernmost point in the mainland US (which is in FL). Ok so geography is clearly settle with: South
Next culture:
- they claim special bbq abilities like the rest of the south
- slave state, like the rest of the south
- secession state, like the rest of the south
- resist the removal of christian monuments on state property, like the rest of the south
- they say ma'am and sir excessively
- they named counties after Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, John C. Calhoun, Stonewall Jackson, and John Bell Hood, all southern heroes.
- people speak with a drawl
If I disagreed with the cause it was supporting I would not enter.
When you say American south, you are still culturally referring to the civil war south, which I'd the modern day southEAST United states. You know, the turds with the rebel flag and facial hair and trailer parks. All of the "southern states" (except for Miami florida) are 95 percent filled with solid whites and solid blacks who are still arguing over the civil war. None of the southern rebel flag states have anything to do with a government or cultural that cares about anything outside of the white vs black argument and white vs black history. Texas is loaded with Chinese and muslims and people Honduras, not to mention tons of new Mexico-esque Pueblo people that all of your redneck friends in the "south" would just call a bunch of Mexicans. That's the way people in the true south are. You may be Philippino or Apache, but rednecks and blacks will still call you a "dam mexican" just because your skin tone is brownish. People in the true south are uneducated, and they have never and will never live around people of ethnic diversity like what's in Texas.
Look at the 2 states that actually "dip" further south- texas and Florida. Well......in the western part of Florida in the panhandle, you can find flamboyant and belligerent redneck hillbillies. That is something you cannot find in texas. Texas has never been a white people state. White people dont want to live here. They hate the spanish language, the muslims, and they hate hot weather. White people are cold weather people. There are a few white farmers in the texas panhandle, and there are couple hundred rich white people in the north dallas suburbs, but that's about it.
Go to the places that you call west......Utah. California. Washington. Montana. You will see a crapload of white people and you will feel like you are in the United states. In texas I rarely see any white people whatsoever, and it FEELS like I am in a severe foreign country. Texas is a whole different country, filled with colored people. That's why I live here. I'm sick and tired of old cold whites in Oklahoma with no culture who sit around eating bland baloney sandwiches and waving a revel flag in my face.
Why are you not addressing my statement about the map you provided showing that everywhere in texas from van horn to el paso is considered the west?
Oh ya....one more thing.......all 300 miles of texas west of van horn is legally classified as western mountain time zone.
I went to a race once that was supposed to be for babies at risk. As my biracial, gender fluid partner and I stood at the starting line we found out it was for a pro life charity! I was literally shaking so hard a dropped my gels! We had to leave immediately and we later signed a petition to impeach Blumph so the day wasn’t a total loss.
