exactly. out of state Americans have as little claim to Alabama's tax money as foreigners. I don't want my state tax dollars paying for these entitled carpetbaggers from out of state.

I don't see why athletics should be viewed differently than academics in this respect. Obviously many American universities admit foreign students who are more competitive than their American counterparts (some are less competitive but willing pay full tuition, though that's another story). If Americans are upset to see foreign-born student athletes, maybe they should get good.
Quit talking about taxes funding or not-funding athletics. When a scholarship is given to a foreign athlete, that is money that could have been given to an American. Instead, that American now will either have to pay to go to school or will quit the sport because there is “no room” on the team or they can’t afford to.
Our universities should not be in the business of supporting foreign athletes for free.

well actually it kind of matters. If the scholarships are paid for by student fees, then it would be weird not to allow them to go to foreigners when foreigner are in fact helping to pay for them.

You probably also fully subscribe to the idea that everyone should get a trophy and we should refrain from teaching young kids that there's winning and losing. If you want a scholarship, EARN it. You seem to forget that coaches are in the business of putting together a successful, winning program. Not making sure they give chances to develop athletes. At the end of the day the job Nick Saban has is the same as Dan Waters has: win. That's the job.
I'm also waiting for you to denounce Oregon's women this year since 6 of their top 7 aren't American. I mean if you're going to believe in something, at least be consistent.

Yeah, I would argue that 1) there are plenty of opportunities for American runners to get scholarships and 2) having foreign athletes to compete against helps to develop American runners competing against them in the NCAA system.

This argument is not without merit. About two thirds of the former NCAA athletes that compete in the Olympics do so for countries other than the United States. Essentially the foreign countries are using the NCAA system as a developmental program for their Olympic athletes. Additionally, at schools like New Mexico, they take advantage of the Amigo Scholarship which has extremely soft requirements (minimum ACT of 23), which is funded by tax payers and covers about half of the scholarship. It basically allows the coach to effectively double the number of scholarships he can offer and gives him a perverse incentive to recruit a disproportionate number of foreign athletes.

I strongly agree. NCAA should ban scholarships to internationals. The track meets will still be entertaining, there will still be close meets and crazy finishes. A national champion will still be crowned.
We don't need them in the NCAA and they are taking money and scholarships away from Americans.

While I agree, that would be a violation of so many rights, and be way too tall of an order to fill. Look at most big school's soccer programs. See anything common? Tons of big hockey programs have Canadians on their team. Look up a successful college hockey team's roster. It is sad that so many programs have to go outside of our country to become successful. But, it goes much deeper than just brining in outside athletes. Look at the lifestyles of your typical Kenyan compared to a kid in USA suburbs. (Inner city kids do not do XC for the most part) What is the difference? How do most American kids spend their free time? How may walk to school? Are American public schools better/worse/same, as Kenyan schools?
We provide a society that allows anyone and everyone to be as lazy as we please. That is why a hungry Canadian , Kenyan, Russian, who has worked hard in a sport can come here and dominate. They are hungry!! They need a way out! What way out do the majority of American children need?
