I've been through lists. Was looking for people's input/experiences on what is/isn't a good race for somebody at my level (sub-elite at best). Responses have been extremely helpful.

No entitlement, just doing my due diligence. I'm sorry you feel the way that you do.

Had two friends on the XC/Track Team back in the 80's who had never ran a marathon before. They both went down to Houston and in their debut ran 2:16 and 2:18 off of primarily XC training. Yes, their PB's were faster than yours but the slower guy wasn't a whole lot faster.

Phoenix used to have a some late Fall marathons. Fiesta Bowl? I thought they had one around Thanksgiving too. Not sure.

Don't be afraid of NY, I've run it 8 times and my PR (2:23:36) was run there. Based on your resume, with correct build up, you should be able to run 2:23 low or slightly better. Why do you need "bottle services"? There is a great marathon in NJ in early May I have run twice. Philly in late November should be fine for you--I've run that around 7 times. Just go out in the exact pace you want to finish at. Jacksonville in December/Birmingham Marathon in February are both good.

I ran 2:23 (NY) & 2:24 (Philly) closing last mile in 5:25 both times because I rationed my energy. Leave nothing for your kick. You must do the same.

Bottle service? It's not a strip club lol. Srly just learn dixie cups. I ran my PR drinking from dixie cups. At your pace the volunteers will be thrilled to hand you a drink. Here's how to do it- Grab a cup from the volly, bend the brim into a little funnel, put some in your mouth and swish it around to warm up the fluid first, then swallow. It gives you something to do while you're out there.

Elite water bottle tables, srly. My favorite thing was beating runners from the "elite field" with low bib #s & their own stupid water bottle tables out on the course.

Or try a hydration vest. I BQ'd sporting one of those babies one time.

Ignore the clown that says he can only run in his time zone.

Go to Asia. Lots of high quality races. Two in Seoul in November and several in Japan.

His half time says otherwise. OTs are definitely in reach.

I've only ever heard good things about the California International Marathon in Sacramento, CA. Gradual downhill course, not a huge field like New York, and almost always perfect marathon weather.

Forgot to add, the California International Marathon is held typically the first weekend in December.

Traveling east to west is generally better. I've traveled to Australia and HK (similar time zones to JPN) and never had issues with jet lag when I arrive. Coming back is a different story .

I think Memphis could also be a good one but lack of competition.

I agree that Indy/Richmond/Philly are the top 3 choices for the OP, and I would recommend them in that order. Indy is faster than the Richmond course and Philly sometimes doesn’t have great weather. Reasons for doing Richmond instead of Indy would be having an extra week to train in good fall weather, and good brewery options for after the race.

I’m hoping to run mid 2:20’s this fall and decided on Indy. Race director has been very responsive and said there will be elite fluid stations at 10K, 20K, and 30K in addition to normal stations.

Have you checked out Toronto Waterfront? Flat course, good depth in that area (Canadian Championships), organizers do a top notch job.

Harrisburg. Flat and if on a very good day, course record (2:22).
