14:40 pace and we'll see how far Shalane can run. Whether it's 2k or 3k. Then we'll see how Shelby can handle the last 200.

I wondered about that, but Robby Andrews is listed for the men's 1500. Surely he's in the main program.

Also, there is no list for any women's 5000.

I agree. She was 11th in Rio in the 5000 and 5th in Birmingham in the 3 and she has won two DLs this year, so it's hard to see why a race director wouldn't take her. The real question is why she didn't run in Rabat. I assume it's as you said: They want more control over the pace.

Houlihan is in 1:55, 3:55, 14:30 shape. She can do it!

Nozomi Tanaka will run 14:20 someday though.

I'm surprised so many posters lack faith in Shalane's ability to provide a good pacing job. I definitely don't think she could run a 14:4x 5000 herself these days, but it's crazy to think she doesn't make it 6-8 laps at 70-71s, given her recent indoor results and not to mention how hard she closed the NYC marathon.

This will be fun to see how it shakes out! Realistically it's hard to bet on an AR falling in any given race, but I think Shelby could do it in the next year or two.

As for others saying she'll run 14:30s ... it's very rare to find non-DL/non-championship races that fast these days. There just isn't the depth to make races that competitive at the sharp end. Agnes Tirop did win in Bellinzona last night in 14:36 but is Houlihan as good as her?

We know Houlihan can make up 10+ seconds on the last lap but she hasn't proven yet that she can grind out 12.5 laps at a fast pace from the start.

Given all this I'll say she runs 14:45-14:50 tops on this occasion.

This has the makings of a very interesting race, Hall, Huddle, Schweizer, several other elite Americans and the top U20 5K athletes. This entire field is looking to run fast, this is a perfect setup for a 14:40x pace with the opportunity to kick down to 14:30x over the last 2 laps. Very unlikely to go slow. Even with the top Africans, this should be an interesting race to watch.

She's in the Mile in London against Our Laura, Hassan, Tsegay, Obiri etc.

Excited to see Schweizer and Sisson in the Heusden 5000 too. Hope they can both get close to 15-flat (if not break it?!)

Also, note Sean McGorty in the 5k B race, possibly sub-13:20 w/right pacing and good weather.

1500 yes in a perfect race well paced, 14:30 possible, 1:55 I hope your right, but that is very fast, she is a 1500/5000 runner in my opinion.

I agree, but remember that Flanagan had this record before Huddle took it from her. So, I'm thinking Shalane's motivation here might not just be out of the goodness of her heart to help Houlihan, but as payback to Huddle if she can facilitate Huddle losing the record. It adds some additional drama that Huddle will be in this race.
