Kiprop has money, but he thinks that fighting the IAAF lawyers, or others -who have bigger pockets is doomed to failure, so he prefers to keep the money he has to invest in his future business, or life. Lance A. also was forced to give in.
This is really tragic news, especially for all the youth in Kenya who idolized him.
Please note, a large group of Kenyan elites still support him.
Would be interesting to get Canova's view on the whole matter.
This case is not good for track and Kenyan athletics.
Interesting that in cycling, former dopers, or suspected dopers, like Contador and Virenque, can resume their careers, and still retain their popularity.

The one thing I haven't seen mentioned, at least not on the first page of this thread is this: Kiprop is about the freakiest looking dude I've ever seen run. Can you name someone with a better body for running? Talk about lungs on legs. Nothing about him looks remotely normal. If I had his body I'd expect to run sub 4:00 while 20 pounds over weight. Think of Brody Hastey who is running about 4:00 for the mile. You guys don't think Kiprop can run 15 seconds faster? Maybe, maybe not.
Was he on drugs? I'd guess yes, but at the same time it really IS expensive to fight an organization like the IAAF and WADA when you look at the history and it's practically a kangaroo court so you're better off keeping your money and finding out who your close friends are.
If he's innocent I can't blame him for giving up if it would mean he could lose all of his money on legal fees. That's no way to have the doping system setup, where you can't even afford to defend yourself. I'm not impressed with the situation at all.

If caucasian runners, like Willis et al. can run 3.30ish clean, then it is not surprising that Kenyans with their particular body structure, altitude, and fierce motivation, can run a few seconds faster. Mo Farah, ,3.28, always clean in tests, so close to Asbel's time, and Mo comes from 5/10 background.
Canova, in previous studies, suggests that EPO provides no tangible advantage to Kenyans like Kiprop.
This tragic case, for Asbel, spells the end of an era. Everyone in Eldoret and Iten is sad, but Asbel maintains his innocence.

Anyhow, more seriously he won the Diamond league is 2010, 2015, 2016 which is $40,000-50,000. He won the WCs in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 which is $65,000. Looking at a very good season for Kiprop (when the sauce was just right) he had 5 wins (which is usually $10,000) but one of these was the DL final in Brussels (which I'm not sure of the prize for this), he had one 4th ($3000), a 5th ($2,500) and a 10th (no sauce $1,000 800m final). Track Stats has his winnings at $76,500 for the year in just DL prize money (so $30,000 for the final). Plus $40,000 for the overall DL, with another $65,000 for the world championships gold or $181,500 for the year. Then there was his DL 1500m record of 3:26.6 which surely was an undisclosed bonus of $10,000- $20,000 maybe even $50,000. Then there is his appearance fees for 8 races??? Nike bonuses??? (Fastest in the world, world champion, no. 1 ranked, won five times plus a retainer/base salary). If F. Rosa was half competent as a manager Kiprop should have earned over $300,000 in 2015 (before he took his massive cut, of course). In a country where $5,000 enables you to live comfortably.

Unfortunately, money can't build a case where there is none.
The anti-doping mechanisms are extremely sound and Kiprop would have to prove that the whole system across the world is broken to get out of this one. It's not possible.
The sample is collected and split into two tamper proof containers by the athlete which are coded to the athlete and sealed by the athlete.
They are then shipped to a lab outside of the country and tested.
They check the sample is from the athlete through DNA markers, the EPO they are looking for is strings of partly metabolised proteins, not what you could squeeze from an EPO syringe into the sample after urinating.
I said it in the other thread, A positive + B positive = Done. He would have to have a decent excuse to explore like some of the excuses given before for injesting trace amounts of steroids from beef, tainted legal supplements like protein powder etcetera. Something which they could check by going to a supplier and seeing that the athlete was correct.
Kiprop cannot come up with any excuse other than 'I may have been extorted for money, but I'm not sure. Maybe I didn't give enough tea money, I don't know.'
It's laughable, the guy never did seem that smart from his race tactics, I'm surprised it took this long to catch him out.

Well, there is that. But he had the Rosa apparatus behind him, which must have helped a lot.
Also, we know that you could always bribe the IAAF until 2015ish, and AKAD really just started ramping up their OOC testing (and still gives a heads-up...). Remember they had to change a lot to be let into Rio 2016. Kiprop was flagged as "likely doping" in 2016, and caught with EPO in 2017 - so basically he was caught right away, i.e. as soon as possible.
