That is not "begging the question", but diving makes no sense to me.
It looked more like his legs folded under him as he made his push in the final meters than an intentional 'dive'. I'm sure they felt like pianos at that point.

Not true. More than a few successful Haverford athletes come from humble economic circumstances thanks to generous financial aid.
I had the great fortune of living and training with Charlie at Haverford. I can safely say I know very few if any runners with the same level of drive and dedication as charlie.
Charlie worked a full day and took SEPTA to swarthmore last chance meet and princeton distance races both this year and last year. Charlie paid his own way to USAs.
I don't see a single guy on this list (see below for US 1500m performance list from 2017) who has the same set of circumstances. As far as I know, all these guys have training partners and are given substantial enough financial support that they don't have to work a full time job (or are in college). Don't tell me this guy isn't overcoming odds to achieve something awesome.

Wow! I remember competing against him in high school when he was at Loyola. Remember asking him for advice on the old runners world forum and he was always a stand-up guy. Was confused when he took his talents to a school I had never heard of at the time, Haverford, however, it was obviously for the best.
Definitely instills in me the hope and courage that I can continue to be successful post college. I'll keep training hard and grinding it out. Thanks, Charlie.

He's in a good company for sure, but working 40 hours a week and training isn't that hard, especially for the mile. The hardest part is probably the lack of training partners, not the having a job part (depending on the job). If you tell me he is working construction 7am-5pm or is a first year associate at a top law firm, an ibanker at goldman sachs, or a consultant with Bain, BCG, or McKinsey, I'll be very impressed. Don't get me wrong, his times are incredible and he's on the cusp of being a finalist at the US champs, but this circle jerk over being "blue-collar" i.e. working 40 hours a week and training thing, is a bit overplayed.

Really?, Then why aren't more (any?) elites doing it? I guess cause they are making money hand over fist running in track meets across the USA!

That was Spencer Brown of the Athlete Special in 3rd. He has been trying to break 4 for a while, and this might be a PR. Maybe he will document the race on the Athlete Special.

I work at Bain and have run 3:43 for the mile training on the airplane between engagements.
I know this guy and have been able to race and talk to him. He is a great guy and works his ass off to work for sub4. Keep going after it Charlie!!
It's not necessarily hard (inconvenient maybe), but it's not ideal either.
