19.69 at the end of May is one thing. 19.69 in the middle of March is something different.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Clarence Munyai is cooked. Finished. 19.69 in mid-March is a death sentence. You won't see him run faster all year.

I think Jacob has a lot of room for improvement in the next five years. At his age, he has about three Olympics games to participtate in (if he stays healthy). He is also lucky that making the Olympics is very easy for him. It's almost automatic .

Hard to imagine Noah being juiced. His progression has been pretty steady since 2013. Parents were track stars and brother is heading toward sub-45.

Lyles age 17 (almost 18) ran 20.18, which is equivalent to a 3:50 mile, which I believe Jakob can run this summer (or 1500 eq).

Both of these are phenomenal talents in their respective events. Lyles may be the best 200 runner in the world at 20; we'll see if Jakob sits in the same position in 2020.

Lyles is basically Roy Martin (20.13 former HSR for many years) level talent but with a very, very sound upbringing and head on his shoulders. That is a major talent who knows how to train and race and he will be beaten at the world level only by some physical freak with protected access to drugs, like a future Bolt or perhaps one of the many South African sprinters able to cheat with impunity now.

I agree but again, Lyles is ranked 10th all time. Not for his age, for all athletes that have ever walked this Earth. And this is in an event that is frequently and hotly contested, not the mile.

So Jakob needs to run 3:28.8 in the 1500m at 20 to be on par.

That is how good Lyles is.

While both are insane, I think it's important to note that sprinters typically peak earlier in their careers in comparison to middle distance runners and distance runners. Comparing performance at ages for a 200 runner and a 1500 runner would be unfair.

Because there is no way to know what age Kenyans and Ethiopians have been when they were laying claim to youth records, and because many of the most talented don't get the shot to go to Europe or the U.S. to run in major meets until they get noticed by agents, the youth records cannot really be assessed in a world-wide comparison. Hence, the 19.69 by Lyles, tenth all-time, gets the nod here. Nonetheless, 3:52.28 is pretty incredible for a 17 year old and will be remembered much longer, that is, if he doesn't run a faster mile this year. I figure that he will run well under 3:35 at the 1500m this year and set a new 'record' there as well. Lyles will run 19.5.

I agree, and so treating them both as adults, 19.69 is far superior, but if Jakob ever runs 3:28 I'll be blown away also.

Otherwise, as it stands, Lyles is the 10th all time 200m man, who has won 5 (?) Diamond leagues in his career and so an absolute class above Jakob.

Ages aside, Lyles could be favourite to win the world title next year if he continues his winning streak and running fast times.

Will Jakob ever get into the same position, I don't know.

Both Lyles and JI are just getting started, but it’s hard not to see Lyles winning the next Olympic 200. Lyles is just beginning to develop. He could be the fastest of all time sooner than later.

Noah was talking about it on the Citius Mag podcast, telling a story about the time he met Usain Bolt.

"So I got injured, with my hamstring, and they took me to this really well known doctor, in Germany, who specializes in tears and stuff like that... and I'm doing my third session with him and I come out and I just see Usain Bolt just sitting there..."

Again, I trust Lyles and his family completely, and am sure they would never have any reason to entertain or introduce any PED use in their lives. However, Hans and his track record, no matter how clean, does enter a territory where the use of certain treatments and aids does become questionable.
