Which clip is that? there one that he cut a hole in the back of the heel in that says 2018 but it's old video

If it came down to the last km with him and Kipchoge, who do you think has the better kick at this stage in their careers? From what I remember, Kipchoge beat him in 2003 but I don't recall another time he out kicked Bekele at the finish.

Bekele is not very good at assessing his shape... before his victory in Berlin he said he was "80%", while before his DNF last year he said he was "90%". He's probably gonna embarass himself one more time. Guye Adola could be the real treat.

Bekele is undoubtedly a human being. He's flawed and inconsistent. But I still find it hard to bet against him despite his inconsistencies, because when he's on....BAM! Kipchoge has been a juggernaut though and there are some interesting potential from the periphery. Really looking forward to Sunday morning to see how this unfolds on the men's and women's results.

Agreed. Aside from his extraordinary talent, Bekele is a very good racer who understands timing, his competitors and his own limits very well. Look at how he came back and beat Kipsang in Berlin 2016 or how he took advantage of the downhill and gapped Farah to win the Great North Run in 2013, to take just 2 examples. I think this mental aspect is a prerequisite to beat Kipchoge (missing from Adola's attempt in Berlin).

An overlooked part of Bekele’s interview is his statement that he’s been eating better. Hermens has said in the past that his training suffers and his diet deteriorates when he has too much time between races, and that this has made Marathon training difficult; unlike the track and cross country seasons which are packed with races. I would love to see him go the spartan Eliud route to keep him accountable, but that’s not his style and it seems like he likes his fitness to remain a mystery so he can exploit that in a race. A lone ranger, not a charismatic ambassador for the sport, but an assassin when he’s at his best and my favorite runner to watch race of all time.

Aside from maybe a bit of luck if he is healthy, I think last year when Jos Hermens questioned his training, motivated him for this race.

He could. But Kipchoge could still possibly beat him at his (Bekele's) best. This isn't 5,000-10,000m and Kipchoge is incredibly talented at this distance. Pyschologically, and physiologically.
