Hi guys, I am running the Mesa-PHX half marathon in a few weeks and am aiming for a sub 1:30 half marathon. What kind of workouts would indicate that I am in shape to do so? I have been running 35-45 miles per week, with one complete rest day and two/three days of strength. I usually have one day of shorter speed work (800s/1200s @ sub HMRP) and a day of 25-40 minutes (building up) at a moderately hard pace (6:50-7:00).
A few key runs -
7 w/ 4 @ steady state (7:32-7:40-7:31-7:15) and 1 mi FF (6:27)
8 w/ 5 @ sub 6:52 (6:57-6:52-6:38-6:39-6:57)
10 w/ 3 easy, 3 moderate (7:33-7:32-7:33), 3 harder (7:01, 6:51, 6:47), 1 mi CD (8:10)
and finally yesterday:
11 w/ 1 mi wu (8:12), 5 progressive (7:35-7:25-7:04-6:57-6:41), 5 easy (8:04-8:09-8:13-8:14-7:56)
I am a 28 year old male who is 6'6 and 198 lbs and has gone sub 20 (19:55) and sub 42 (41:59) in the 5k and 10K. Current PR in the half is 1:32.
I've heard this course is very fast, so I'm hoping to see 1:29:xx when I cross the line in less than 3 weeks!
More hills

I am gunning for the same time in May. It's so hard to gauge my true pace as my region is very hilly, and of my 20 races over the last 5 years..5k, 10k, 10 miler, HM on the road and trails, not one of those courses were a flat, fast course. It's made for great trail and climbing strength though! I've been consistent with 30-35 mpw over the year, peaking once at 40 mpw the last few months. I want to find a relatively flat 10k this summer and give it hell. All the best to ya!
Hi guys- wanted to follow up on yesterday’s half. 1:29:11 and my first ever sub 1:30! Really thrilled considering my shoe came untied twice during the race. Lots of mental barriers broken through yesterday despite physical setbacks.
Strava activity is here-

Splits: 7:30-6:40-6:41-6:42-6:39-6:43-6:44-6:52-6:48-6:57-6:47-6:33
Lost over :30 in the first mile trying to tie my shoe and then again in mile 8 when it came untied again and I clipped another runner and fell trying to get off to the side to re-lace it. Lift :15 seconds there. Finally caught up to 1:30 pacer at mile 10 and hung on the rest of the way. Awesome day and definitely have a sub 1:28 in me on a perfect day. Can’t wait to see what lies ahead for me.
Nice running! Way to deal with some setbacks and stay cool and close out those final miles.
