Why are there so few murders per capita in East Asian countries?

Mainland Asia and South East Asia is not the same as Japan. The first time Asians visit Japan they are normally flabbergasted and dumbfounded at how deeply the Japanese embrace their traditional religion and culture at every level. It's unbelievable to Chinese like myself.

PS-I did find this article on Japan very interesting. While violent crime is very low since the Enola Gay flew over, sex crimes are apparently underreported and suicide rates are among the highest in the civilized world. Not sure what to make of that.

You seem to be implying that the amount of abortion and infanticide happening in China causes people to go out and commit more homicide.

I'm unsure why you are drawing that inference. I simply stated that there is a lot of abortion and infanticide in China. That is somewhat hard to reconcile with the statement that there are "so few murders per capita in East Asian countries" in the Original Poster's subject field. Of course China is but one of several East Asian countries, yet it is the most populous one by far.

The Americans got their asses kicked out of Asia so bad they have to murder and main hundreds of innocent C&W fans to falsely prove to themselves of ther manliness.

It's because they value education and copied the 1880s Japanese secodary education system which is year around, 48 weeks per year, and has mandatory after-school activities. I.E. from 5 to 18 kids are supervised by adults from 8 AM to 8 PM.

That is fascinating. (I teach social studies, but I am fairly ignorant on East Asian societies after about 500ad.) Can you please elaborate?

In Singapore they got tired of cleaning gum off the streets so they banned it. If you get caught with a certain amount of drugs, you're executed on the spot. It's a different approach to fighting crime for sure... but it's totally safe for women to walk the streets alone at 3 am.

It's standard procedure for White US Cops to execute Black Males. It happens every day.

Good question. Having lived in both Vietnam and Brazil, I have often thought about this. I would say that the answer is that they, like many European countries, put an emphasis on public good/safety over individual rights.

Vietnam is a much poorer country than Brazil, yet the murder rate is much lower (1.7 per 100,000 pop compared to 25.2 in Brazil and 6.2 in the US). I can ride a motorcycle anywhere in Vietnam and feel pretty safe. I can't say the same for Brazil. So, imagine that. A country that was a dangerous war zone in my parents' generation is one of the safest countries when it comes to violent crime.

Pro gun people often point to Vietnam as an example of how the people can fight off a standing army. But maybe it would surprise them to learn that owning guns is mostly not allowed in Vietnam. All those AKs from the war? Had to give them up. What happens if you get caught with a gun? It's highly illegal. You go to jail. If you get caught trafficking guns? You'll get the death penalty. As far as I know, exceptions can be made for people who live in rural areas and use guns for hunting. But here, we would be talking about bolt-action rifles and shotguns.

Religion. Vietnamese are mostly Buddhist and Catholic. Not much to say here. But beliefs about karma certainly exist. If you kill somebody, you dishonor all of your family and your ancestors.

Urbanization/family/people living close together. All things that would make a person not want to obtain an illegal gun. Own or know about an illegal gun, and you risk people around you being jailed.

So that's a little of how it is there. The rule of law is strong there. There are no favelas that the government are afraid to go into. If people really want to be able to shoot guns, they can join the People's Army Reserves.
