Actually, you appear to be both.

Try this: Take your conversion charts and place them in your fat, slow ass. Back in the day, Kim Jones ran 2:26 without the ability to break 16 for 5K. 2:18 marathoner Catherine Ndereba has to fight like crazy to bust 32:00 for 10K on the roads, a far more freakish discrepancy than Hunter-Galvan's. I could go on for a half an hour with similar examples.

Something else to consider is that maybe Hunter-Galvan (along with Ndereba and others) doesn't give a shit about 5K and 10K races and uses them primarily as marathon preparatory efforts. But if your target of abuse decided to train specifically for a short race, tapered, and ran under 16 and 33 for 5K and 10K, you'd find some other reason to hate.

I'll add you to the startlingly long list of San Antonio residents with room-temperature IQ's. Stay out of the sun, amigo.

I think that Kim Jones had a warm weather road 32:20ish but point taken the Marathon is a beast unto it self all you can do is bring your best.Out past an hour RACING becomes some thing more than speed/training whatever.

In saying that she "[s]ounds to me like a woman of fairly modest ability who just likes to race," I didn't mean to suggest that she is not "serious" about her running, or that she is not a decent runner. The point is that it's not a big deal for a woman with reasonably good talent to run a few marathons in 2:34 to 2:42 in one year. There are good reasons that most world-class runners generally don't run marathons as frequently as she does (notable exceptions from the past would include Bill Rodgers and Kjell-Erik Stahl, along with a number of somewhat lower-level elite runners like Doug Kurtis), but this woman is nowhere near those levels.

I have no idea whether this woman is doping. But her marathon performances are a mighty poor basis for posting defamatory doping insinuations on this message board.

Your right, she is just another girl who went from being a local winner in 17:00-18:30's and 35-36:30's over the last 15 years to somebody who can crank out 5 marathons in sub 2:44 to 2:34 pace in 10 months and out of nowhere make the NZ Olympic Team, with the help of a lawyer to get her in with appeal after appeal. I bet girls do that all the time. Especially ones with 4 kids under 10. I'm sure she is doing all of this without performance enhancers. All these years of running 40-60 miles and getting nowhere, have finally paid off and she has miraculously reached a new level. At 35 she is now running 100 mile weeks and able to race week in and week out without the need for recovery like every other runner that is clean on this planet. If I hadn't seen her first hand all these years, I might buy your theory, but I have seen her for many years. What is going on there is alot of hard work, no doubt, but how can she do all of it and recovery week, after week. People have mentioned men runners doing it, but not the women. Women are just different, we break down and break up. Anyway, we all have our own opinions.

She actually does promote supplements and vitamins in the San Antonio area (Roger Soler's Sports stores), and is a great person and family woman, regardless of performance enahncing drugs or not.

Not to comment on the particular runner being mentioned, but just to agree with the others that certain types of female runners can run 2.35 marathons with ~16.45 PRs for 5k and ~34.30 PRs for 10k.

They also find 2.45 marathons absurdly easy when in 2.35 shape, so if this woman did the same, she was not giving 100% every time out.

Again, I don't know this woman, but if all you've got on her is this progression of times and frequency of performances, that's not nearly enough to warrant these charges.

I speak from experience. When I was 17, I was a 5:24 miler. When I was 20, I was a 33:01 10,000-meter runner. When I was in my early to mid-twenties, I was a 2:30 to 2:40 marathoner. And by the time I was 30, I was able to "crank out" 2:19-2:20 marathons within weeks of each other, and could easily have run ten or twelve marathons a year in 2:20 or so if I had chosen to. My progression was nothing more -- and, I should emphasize, nothing less -- than the result of hard, intelligent training. You should try it sometime. The results might surprise you.

Yeah, I hear that Uta Pippig was a really sweet girl and the Boston Marathon crowds loved her when she won three Boston Marathons. Oh yeah, don't forget what a crowd pleaser Regina Jacobs was. And of course, everybody loves Mary Decker-Slaney-Tabb, she even made the Hall of Fame. And don't leave off Eddie he had lots of freinds and believers out there. BUT OF COURSE ALL DENIED THEY'RE USE OF PERFORMANCE ENHANCERS, THEY JUST WORK HARD. Couldn't we all work that hard with alittle enhancing help.

This is the second time I've heard people bash on Liza, what do you do for a living go to the results and find women that have become successful get jealous and then go onto the message board and tell the world they do drugs. How wrong you are. Liza has had 4 great kids and also teaches full time she is an awesome runner and has guts like no other person I know.

It's sad that you think since now she has stopped having children and can go an represent her country at the Olympics that you have to bash a person like this. She has worked very hard to get where she is today and doubted herself that she could go under 2:36, but prooved herself and others wrong. She has amazing talent and is finally able to show it just let her be herself and get rid of this thread.

I was training with a girl back in the late 1980's named Christine Gibbons, an ultra runner from NJ. I think it was 1988, when she ran 21 races of marathon length or longer. She could run 2:53 marathons in her sleep (she had a PR of 2:38 from Vegas). Again, as someone else pointed out, I cannot believe that she ran them all-out.
