if athlete is in expected shape, not always top, has ideal weather, ideal pacing/drafting if required, runs tight in lane, etc, i woud expect to be right ~ 100% of the time

it is not rocket science

if any of above criteria are not met, then there can be significant difference from expected clocking

Look, WVN had just run a world record in the 300m, something like 30.82. So, a significant sub 44 clocking was all but certain. Calculo got lucky on the tenth. It could have been 43.50 or 43.80, depending on how much he was pushed. As it turns out he was pushed into the backstretch. That was probably one of the fastest circuit 400s in history when you back into the fifth or sixth place.

The above performance seems to be the fastest third place outside of World's, Olympics, and U.S. Trials. The next best third place outside those competitions was Mark Richardson at 44.37 at Monaco in 1998. Hernandez at Zurich in 1990 seems to have been the fastest fourth place outside of champs in 44.43. Richardson was among the fastest third or fourth place finishers in history a few times. He was probably the next best 4th in 1998 at 44.48 at Zurich.

So, this was a great circuit 400.

he only predicted that cause he is starting to copy me. i said van was in 43.6-7 shape after his WR in the 300, and said he was in 19.4-5 shape. so vent/calculo goes ahead and copies my 400 prediction yet he told me i was a total joke saying van wasnt in 19.4-5 shape.

again i will say if van takes off % wise as hard as he did in rio he will run 42.8

predictions on what could happen at worlds is

19.3-4

42.-43 flat

what i love about van is he doesnt just run mo style to win, he could do that and run 43.8 and 19.6, but he will run hard like he always does and leave some people in awe

if he runs 43 flat or abouts, he might run a 400 after worlds and drop a 42.8, being it is one race and not rounds, but i see van as the kinda guy who likes to do big things on the big meets and not just some one day affair.

what i would love to see after worlds is for him to try a 500 and 600 and get the WR's in both. i know they are not ratified or whatever but imagine if he could get the 200-600m WRs all at once, i think he could do it

he ran 19.19 into wind with suicidal 9.9-low split ?!

that was 18.9-high off 0 wind & ideal paced 200 off 9.9-high split

this was 1st modern run in history which i reckon is on a par with running quality of absolute bestest

this is best likely ~ run in history, albeit over 880y & ill, a guy at barely 19y in likely 44-low off mile training with prelim coupla hours before !!!

whichever iaaf points gives as highest, i suggest you accept as best runner in history on tentative..

Without evidence of K. James malingering, that is a very unfair allegation. We do not know Kirani James quit out of fear. He hasn't been racing well this year. He may be suffering chronic fatigue. He may have Achilles strains. He may have a torn muscle. Sprinters do suffer injuries at a higher rate than distance runners.

he probably had really bad influenza.that could sideline someone for a month....and i dont just mean a common cold,either.
