Muir doesn't specifically mention Simpson. The point is, Muir was speaking from the perspective of a 23-year-old, which she was last year. Simpson was nearly 30. Muir was just getting started. Last summer was likely Simpson's last legitimate chance for an Olympic medal. If Muir was 30 instead of 23, it's very likely she would have run exactly the way Simpson did. At her age, Muir probably thinks she has endless Olympic opportunities, but if she were injured in 2020 and unable to compete, then she's looking at being 31 in 2024 and down to her last legitimate shot at an Olympic medal.

Jenny has done her share of front-running in some of the Diamond League races. At Rio, she was horribly boxed in lap 2, I was wondering if she would ever find a way out of that pack. The traffic dictated her strategy, she had very few options at that point.

They are definitely the main medal contenders, Simpson has a slight chance along with the two young Ethiopians. And maybe Winny Chebet.
