I was mostly a 400m/800m runner in high school, 25-30 mpw. My senior year i learned what tempos were from a guy i competed against, and ran a bunch over the winter. Nothing fast, just like 3-4 miles at 5:45-6:00 pace, which for me was a big accomplishment despite being a 16:20 5k guy. i didn't get it

I ran the 4:26 relatively early in the season, indoors actually, and everyone thought I would be state champ.

COACH - "where the hell did that come from?"

ME - "some winter training i didn't tell you about".

COACH - "I'm glad we got that out of your system, now I don't need to throw you in any more 1600m's your senior year

ME - wha?

COACH - "go cool down, you're running the 4x400m later"

I ended up running 1:55 and split 49.5 that year, and my team won the state 4x400 in 3:18 and got 3rd in the 4x800. clyde hart style training

8 - 5:59 (no training)

9 - 4:23 (1500s now on)

10 - 4:30

Was mostly a two miler in high school. Senior year I definitely could have run faster than 4:37. I ran it twice, once at the very beginning of december in an open meet after just starting training, and then once outdoors off of poor training and starting to get sick (I also ran 9:46 indoors that year). In college I ran 4:31 but was a 5k/10k guy so really only ran it once or twice per year indoors.

9th: 6:01 - First and only mile, time trial with the team. Originally was a 400m/800m runner.

10th: 4:48

12th: 4:18 - Stress fracture appeared the next week, missed out on conferences and state championship races.

12th: 4:31 (race was about a month before I peaked, only ran the 4x8 after this so I never got another chance. At the time of that race I was splitting 2:04's but by the end of the season I was at 2:00.)

11th: Discovered computers (BBS days), became a huge nerd, didn't run again until I was an old man. Yay.

42 years old: 4:46 (gotta be careful, running "fast" == injuries)

9th grade - 4:58 (started year at 6:17)

10th grade - 4:39

11th grade - 4:40 (slacked off/distracted by girlfriend/lost interest)

12th grade - didn't run track

Freshman: contemplating running

Pretty decent training from seventh grade up. Low mileage high intensity. In season I maxed at about 45 miles.

Never ran a 1600 in high school ( no mile in my state).

First mile race I ever ran was fifth year of college indoor in 4:12.

Then ran 4:09 a week or two later.

Freshman - DNR

Sophomore - 4:52

Junior - 4:16

Senior - 4:15, 3:57 1500m. Got sick end of season so i didn't run 1600m past districts when I was getting ready to peak for regional and state.

I don't know what the hell happened in between indoor and outdoor this year, maybe all of those massages my coach would give me after practice had something to do with it.

Wow...you dropped basically 25 seconds between senior/HS and freshman/coll. Way to get after it!
