5'10 150 pounds how much faster can I be?

The ignorance of the Forum trollers is truly amazing. Lose 15 pounds and you will be faster. Really? Next someone will post that you need to take laxatives in order to remove 2 lbs of fecal matter so you'll be faster.

You likely are limited by your running ability more than your weight. 150 lbs for your height is very thin already. Train harder, work on speed, improve your form, improve your speed endurance, etc.

Your caloric intake is insufficient to train properly you are likely in what we call energy deficit already.

LIGHTER DOES NOT always MEAN FASTER. Instead of downgrading to a light and weak Prius, why wouldn't you go for a Ferrari?

Restricting calories to an unhealthy point, especially at this age, is dangerous and can promote further health problems down the line, such as a shortage of nutrients when your body is still in development that causes decreased bone density for the rest of your life. It's not worth it.

The proper progression goes something like this:

1) Get into the sport of running and find why you love it - for the competition, freedom, teammates, whatever it is that captures you specifically. Find a true, healthy passion for the sport.

2) Train hard, but don't make running your entire life and let it consume you completely.

3) After you've had some success in the sport and decide you want to pursue it more seriously, fine tune things little by little: better sleep, better training, better all around body strength, healthier food NOT less food. If you train right (including core and stability exercises and a small amount of weighted exercises) and eat healthy food without restricting calories you should see your body condition itself to it's own proper training weight. It may surprise you that it's possible to go up in weight. This happened to me... I gained 10 pounds and went from 15:00 to 14:10 in the 5k simply because I had more all around strength.

You should never lose weight as the first fix to getting faster. Your focus should be training hard and properly fueling your body with enough nutrients to recover. This topic needs to be handled with care. Good luck.

When I was significantly younger I weighed around 150 lbs and am a height somewhere between 5'10" and 5'11". When I went down to 145 people called me a holocaust victim. When I went up to 155 I wasn't as fast, but the thing is I wasn't training as much. When I was 145 lbs I could eat 10 Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers from Wendy's in one sitting. It didn't matter how many calories I ate because I was running a lot. I don't know why you feel the need to cut calories so low if you're a serious runner actually out there burning calories.

Now that I'm older I know I could never get back down to 145 lbs. I think 155 lbs is as far down as I could get and I probably wouldn't like the lifestyle required to stay there. Your body takes something like 5-10 years to restructure itself significantly and as you get older you can't expect to ever get as low as you were in high school or college.

If you decrease your caloric input or increase the output, your body isn't going to quarintine its fat stores just because it needs a few years to get used to those metabolic changes. That's why you don't die when you go for a long run on an empty stomach.

By the standards of these boards I'm not very fast. I ran ~2:04, ~4:45, ~9:55, and ~16:30 in HS. I weighed 137-140. Went to college, gained 5-10lbs of muscle, still run around those times without formal training. Don't worry about the weight, worry about mileage, rest, nutrition, nutrition, and rest. The only numbers you should be concerned with are your distance and pace. The rest will sort itself out

You don't need to be super skinny to run a good mile. 5'10 150 is not too big for a miler. I'd concentrate on your training to improve.

If you plan on moving, then losing 10 pounds might help, but again, training is more important. Just eat real food. If you've given up sugar, then weight will take care of itself.

OK fine!!! I get the point! I did what you guys said and that just eat healthier. Prior to this diet, I was eating three cinnamon rolls in the morning, then six cookies in the evening along with 2 to 3 sodas. I cut all of that stuff out and now I have lost a lot of fat so far, which is for the better. I am not going to starve myself and die.

Don 't restrict your calories or you will bonk and not be able to work out well. Make sure you are getting adequate protein.

I am a 5'10-11 Highschool freshmen. Ask anyone who knows me, and I am skinny. Now, there are a few guys on the track team who are my height and weigh less, you know the type, you can see their ribs. I have a little more muscle than them.

Due to my youthful high metabolism (and add meds which make me eat less) I am fortunate to be able to say that I have hardly any fat on me.

I way 133 to 143 depending on the day, and whether I've gone to the restroom recently.

I think 130 is probobly the absolute lowest you should weigh. I watched what I ate for a few weeks, eating more fruit and veggies and less junk, and I was tired *all the time*. This may not be the same for you, but for those who are skinny like me, especially those who don't eat enough due to add meds, eating more may actually help. It did for me.

Sure, it would help to lose some weight. But watch what you get yourself into. Us runners, especially you, who seem to be relatively fast, burn lots of calories. Once you get to your goal weight, don't kill yourself by eating 1600 calories and burning 3500 calories a day.

This is a terrible idea. There is so much you can improve before you even consider dropping weight. I can run a sub 5 mile and a sub 130 half at 5'9 182lbs. Keep training and don't worry about what you eat. Your times will drop as your training progresses.

Your weight is not limiting you. Pre was like 5'9", 152. Peter Snell was 5'10", 176.

Your caloric intake should be 3000 to 3500 per day if you are training. Eating a proper balanced diet is important for proper bone and muscular development at your current caloric intake you are on the road to injury and poor health.

You are likely malnourished and that is limiting your performance.
