I have yet to se this Kerley have to do any work in the last 100. This will be an Alydar Affirmed contest for a while. Merrit hasn't got the wheels left to go with this kid.

And Van NK may find it more fun to run the 1100 / 200. He's a phenom, but I think he digs deep for his results.

I watched the finish four time and the slowdown was worth maybe .10-.15 seconds. It wasn't until the last few meters (the 42.7 mark) and, while he coasted in, he didn't 'put on the breaks' by any means.

It takes him about .8 to get from the first curved relay(?) line to the next, then it takes him 1.4s to get from the 2nd to the finish. I'm assuming some error in switching from freeze frames of the running time to the clock, so that he slowed from something like .8 to 1.1-1.2 seconds. In other words, this run was worth 43.7 to 43.8.

It seemed like he let up with effort and was still coasting. It was flawless and fun to watch. You're probably right on the 0.10 seconds he *could have* had. Still, that was fun.

Fred couda run ~ 43.6 for ideal race today

wade is ~ 0.6s quicker meaning gap is more like ~ 5m

& Fred has run this in May !!!

i've looked thru all-time lists & i don't believe anyone has ever put in a < 44 the day after an intrinsic < 44 prelim

it woud be incredible if he ran anywhere close to 44-flat today given his inexperience with rounds & that fatigue in his legs

if he does dip under 44 today, then i woud rate him definitely as one of the top-3 or 4 talents ever at 400, because i'm not sure apart from mj whether wade or wariner or watts coud have run successive < 44, perhaps watts but list is very very short

so, odds woud be for more like 44.2/44.3 today, but i'm prepared to be surprised...

Kerley was definitely tired from yesterday. Also, he looked to be straining a lot more than usual.

Funnily enough, he actually came back faster for the second half, about a 22.8.

I think if he'd gotten out slightly faster for his first 200m, his time would've been better today.

Wrong, we'll see a 43.57 max. Now to actually be serious, I think he's gonna win a medal in London. I think he's gonna beat out Merritt as top American this year too. 44.09 this early is nasty, especially jogging through the line and in a prelim.
