Note that Sandi, nor ANY of the other competitors are pulling out in protest. They are competing.
Just go back and look at Rick Suhr's posts the day of the final in the PV in Rio and ask why would any coach post that about their athlete / spouse on the day of an Olympic final.
And Rojo -- if it is such a big story that she pulled out, then why not write about the dozens of other Olympic medalists who declined to even enter the meet. It is indoors, the exhibition season of professional track and field.

As a pole vaulter, that is a nonsense excuse.
Watch the olympics, the Olympic champion almost always sits and waits for 60 minutes for the bar to reach his/her opening height.
If she has a big issue with it, there is no rule against coming in lower, taking one jump, and then skipping a few heights just to stay warmed up. Top vaulters do this occasionally for exactly this reason. I've been in meets where I waited for over 2 hours (decathlons have a really wide range).
For Suhr to complain is ridiculous. It is akin to the top 5 seeds in the 3000 at this meet expecting to have their own heat just to avoid running with the people with no chance at winning.
Cutting out all of the "also rans" makes it boring for spectators, which is where the small amount of money is coming from. We want to see a pack, or see people failing at lower heights to appreciate the upper heights. I want to see an 18 year old out there vaulting just below the top vaulters so I can see them progress over the years. I dont want to see a battle between only the top few, with the event set up to make it perfect for them. Without making it at least semi spectator friendly, these meets disappear.
None of the other top competitors are complaining, as far as I know.
She should go to the meet, throw down a 17 ft vault during warm-up, leave her pole in the box, and walk out!!!!

And that stuff you wrote about Suhr not wanting an Olympic Trials -- why would you assume the average reader of this site even knows that? It's great that this site includes coverage of field events, but I doubt that a meaningful percentage of visitors follow women's pole vaulting.
But let me state things in a way I think your other critic meant to convey: There's nothing wrong with noting that Suhr withdrew. But without context, without even mentioning that she gave no explanation, it's senseless. It's a basic cut and paste job that anyone could do. And no serious outlet covering something like Peyton Manning withdrawing from the Super Bowl for unstated reasons would just pass along his statement and just leave it at that.
It sounds like the woman is a little odd or "off." And, not that this really matters, but her listed stats are 6' and 143 pounds and if she's really that tall she goes at least a buck and a half -- she's a pile of muscle and sinew.
