But he could dial down the cockiness. It's getting rather old.

Is it cocky when it's true?
Walmsley leading at 5k mark. LOL
Jimmy's going to destroy the island!
Walmsley looking to CRUSH the course record. Probably try to go sub 7:20.
"David Byrne is looking to improve upon his second place at #Tarawera last year."
LOL, not with Jim in the race. Sorry bud, maybe next year.
"Jim Walmsley leads alone at 11.6km into #Tarawera in 46:30 elapsed. Focused, says he broke his glasses when he hit a tree, all okay."
Uh-oh. It looks like the course may be attacking Jim early on. No doubt he can beat it back though...

I was going to say, Jim ran into a tree already! And by looks of the top three runners in the photos, they all have too much fwd lean for this early in the race on flat ground. Carnage will ensue. Isn't it also hot?
Guess they don't have low hanging branches in Arizona. Also, why is he wearing sunglasses?

They were running up a hill.
Jonas doesn't do carnage.
Camille Herron is the women's leader.
The last 45K of the race is fairly flat and rolling, so it will benefit those with leg speed to save themselves for that last 28 miles.
Jim did a 50K training run a few weeks ago at 5:56/mi pace, so if he can save himself, he'll probably do well the last bit of the race.
Camille is in 9th place overall, but other than White River, she's not really proven she can hold up well on trail courses.
JW almost 5 minutes ahead.
Don't sleep on Magda Boulet for the women's winner.
I wish the title of this thread could be changed...Tarawera isn't a mountain race
Jim was 68min through basically 10 miles and change, running about 4:05/km

It might as well be for most of the tracksters that post here. Have you looked at their training on Strava?

7 ft/ week elevation gain... wrote:

An overwhelming number of people on this board think Boston is a hilly marathon.
You can and will find more gain in 1 mile on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia than over the entire Boston Marathon course.
JW now 16 minutes ahead going through 40k in 2:44.

Don't worry, the Walmsley haters on this board will still find something negative to say about him or his performance. Because, you know, they can EASILY do 25 miles in 2:44 on trails and elevation...
