> First - I'm not your bruh. Second - these sources (the USA Today article one includes a quote from MM-B) make it pretty clear to me that he was likely the initiator of the protest, and was certainly integrally involved in it.

Also why should Mekhissi be punished when Kemboi broke the rules? who the fudge runs on the inside of the rail? do you really feel bad for him? Those are the darn rules.

> I think "uptight" would be an adjective better used to describe a person who is a firm advocate of adhering to the exact minutia of the rules, rather than allowing for any interpretation. I would also say that MM-B is a "sissy" based on the fact that he accepted/never denounced the protest or the medal.

You must be a real treat to have at parties. I'd rather have to spend time with three time Olympic medalist MM-B than with you.

This wasn't after a race but in the middle of a run on an easy day back when I was in college. As the team was running through town, a car drove by a little too close and one of the guys slapped the back of it hard on the trunk. The guy pulled off the side of the road and gets out of the car. Says something like "who hit my car". One guy on the team that was always a jerk wanna be alpha kind of guy goes "I did!" He runs right up to the guy and slugs him right in the jaw! So they push and shove each other a few times and the guy runs back to his car and drives away! Can't blame him since there were probably 15 guys standing there watching.

In his qualifier to nationals, super rising star Joey Defeo, two days after tempoing a 24:59 5 mile tempo on a all slightly uphill route near his home, got punched and pushed down 1.5 miles into the race, as his attacker was scared that Joey would qualify onto nationals and ruin his chances of winning. Joey roughed on and still managed top 30, despite having a broken jaw and being trampled.

was in owairaka team champs xcountry run as a junior, out sprinted an "old guy", can't remember his name, he took a swing at me, for no other reason that a young pup was beating his ass. i wanted to fight but had no walk as i was a newcomer, and a one-off fight would give me the reputation as a trouble maker.

i looked up the old guy, and he was a low 220's marathon. nice scalp. plus won the junior race. i had no clue that this was good at the time.

looking for the guy's name and stats who threw the punch.

did not find but found this wonderful old timer down under athletics shiit.

In my long history with this sport, I've never seen it, from sprints to marathon.

I was the "new kid", a skinny introverted high school sophomore. I had moved from the north to the south and had a northern accent to my voice.

On the track team there was the a rich kid who drove the expensive car (Daddy's BMW) and dated the hottest girl in the school. He was the star 800M guy and I was a miler.

On an easy training run 6-8 high school kids....talking and joking. I was normally quiet but made a comment that for some reason offended him. He stopped the run...I stopped...he got in my face and was yelling at me. I stood there not sure what to do and he did a hay-maker style punch and clocked me solidly on the side of my face/jaw.

I was stunned and totally surprised. He was still in my face yelling at me. He didnt think I would do anything but I punched him right in the mouth. Hard. He had braces so the punch did more damage and his mouth was full of blood. He was shocked.....screaming "you little fuker" over and over and spitting blood on the road.

He never said a word to me after that.....kept a wide berth from me in the hallways etc. It was a small high school and the incident gained me a level of respect from others.

One of my teammates got elbowed in the nose in a indoor 1000 with 400 to go. His nose started really bleeding but it gave him a big adrenaline burst and he prd by 10 seconds in that race

1999 Pac 10 Championships at Az St. At the end of the meet Joanna Hayes(UCLA at the time) was trying to hop the fence from the stands to get to the field to join her team. A security guy tried to stop her and she wasn't having it. I don't remember if she struck first or not, but the security guard yanked her over the fence and beat the ish out of her. Then some other guy who I assume was her brother came running over to help and the same security guy gave him one punch to the chest and dropped him. Then all hell broke loose. It was a pretty good watch.

In indoor track practice, our 2 best half-milers, who were always very competitive with each other and both volatile to boot, suddenly started whaling away on each other and were throwing fists for about a minute or more before our coach came up. They saw him and stopped. Coach said, "don't stop on my account, I love a good fight, I wanna see who wins." They both glared at each other for almost 10 seconds before it became clear that there would be no more fighting. They had gotten a LOT of punches landed in that minute or so. Doesn't sound like a lot of time, but when 2 strong determined pissed-off guys are going right at each other, they can do a lot of damage in a minute. Coach saw they weren't going to resume and told them both to shake hands and that there better be no more of this or they were both off the team. They never fought again and actually became very good friends.

Anyway, at the same race, strangely enough, we were all hanging out waiting for shit to get started. We were doing the usual high school thing, dicking around, making fun of eachother. Then the insult of all insults came out, the most obnoxious kid in the league starts making fun of people for being virgins. Eventually someone makes fun of the black kid for it, and he just looks over at my buddy, because they were always messing with eachother, and he just goes "nah man, *friends name* is the only virgin here". And my friend just looks at him for a second, tilts his head and goes "Yeah. Well at least I'm not a f*cking n*gger." And everybody from all the other teams just lost their damn minds. My friend and the black kid start walking towards eachother, people are yelling, because for sure these two idiots are about to throw down right then and there. When they finally got to eachother they just gave eachother a bro hug and a slap on the back and walked away from eachother, leaving a group of hysterically laughing high schoolers in their wake. So that's not really a fight story, but pretty much everyone there thought it was gonna turn into one.

Coached a hs team in the 90's. Went to a tri meet and one of my boy runners, a sophomore told me after that a kid from one of the other teams punched him repeatedly once they were in the woods and kept yelling "c'mon". so I say something to the coach and he blows it off like it was just jostling. Two years later, my runner has had a growth spurt. Not good for xc, but good for taking care of himself. He went from about 125 lbs. to about 160 lbs. and he was in to lifting. Now he's a senior and we run at the same course against the same team. My runner asks me what to do I say to him "No referees in the woods. you are on your own. If he starts something, make sure he regrets it"

30 minutes later, the head coach who dismissed it all two years ago, now is pulling me over and asking me to explain what happened. Ha, I said. you dismissed it as jostling, and now your kid messes with someone who set him straight. Let him suck it up and learn a lesson.

Then I turned to the team and told them to get on the bus.
