Anyone who exactly what the current rules say about springs in footwear?

It's not a spring. It's a plastic plate, just like a track spike plate, but sandwiched between a new foam that also has incredible energy return properties. If this is illegal, then so should track spikes...It's just an advancement in shoe technology. Same advancemets like how flywire improved lockdown, carbon increased stiffness, and maltodextrin prevented the bonk.

can we get nikeman to chime in? There are two different shoes here, the latest streak 6 and the "prototype" that was discussed in another thread

Be that as it may, but all the WR have been set with the Adios Boost. If these prototypes and/or new Streaks were so good, why no WR yet?

This has been going on since the 2016 OT Marathon where Rupp, Flanagan, and Cragg wore them. Worn again at Olympics. Hasay wore them in USATF 10 mile champs and again in Houston. People know about it but don't know who to trust in power. Ask Ross Tucker about it.

Would be great if letsrun would interview these athletes and ask them about the shoes. They know they are mechanical doping. Sad stuff.

This isn't just the plastic plate that's embedded in the mass marketed Streak 6s. The shoes the Nike athletes have a noticeable thicker midsole. Conferring a shoe advantage that isn't available to everyone is questionable, but probably all the shoe companies are manipulating and customizing their shoes for elites. Does anyone else have these shoes? Could officials confiscate these shoes and cut them open after the race? But is this all speculation?

Good point. Wejo made a huge deal about the Spira shoes. He did not mince words about the Spira advantage.

If this is intend a story, I would hope Letsrun editorial staff is on it.

You're referring to the prototype version of the Zoom Streak 6 that most of the Nike sponsored marathoners have been wearing for the last 15 months or so.

I hear that they're supposed to be available to the public later this year. As far as the technology I'm not going to comment except that it's not a spring in the shoe.

Seriously. Springs store energy potential. Have to put energy in to get energy out.
