I like to run 5K and 10K races, but am not a hobbyjogger.
Just leave your profile more general and don't risk looking too obsessive. You'll get more matches. Then it can be on YOU to select from the pool of applicants one that fits your criteria, instead of hoping they find you.

I'm a chick also thinking about getting into online dating and also dating someone who is into fitness like I am is a big plus for me. Should I stick to some of the same rules that people have laid out here for a guy?

Do not overemphasize anything. You could just say you are passionate about running and have ONE of your photos be of you running or in your racing gear before, during, or after a race. That would get the message across nicely without making you look one-dimensional. Be sure to indicate other hobbies and interests too, but don't describe them as things you are passionate about.
Why don't you say something like "my hobbies include being a competitive distance runner."
It makes it clear that you are more than a weekend jogger while not being elitist. Plus anyone whom is a weekend hobby jogger will think you are pretty elite since you've demolished the sub 30 minute 5k mark. Anot her runner that is in the same caliber of you will understand you wanting to weed out the less passionate
The only chicks I ever see on dating profiles that say they are "into fitness" or "running" look like they have never done anything physical in their lives or are those weirdo bodybuilders with the betadine looking tans.

Younger, how much? Seems like running groups are generally older, but that might be because we older chaps need the group motivation. Of course, we still do know lots of women, even young ones.

Last year I was making a profile and said that I run anywhere from 8-12 miles in a normal day. Saying miles a week sounds weird to people that aren't runners.
I wouldn't be too concerned about people you'd scare off by saying you run seriously. Wouldn't work out with them anyways once you'd start dating

I agree with this post. This conveys the information and a woman who is interested in a runner will pick up on it. But, you do not want to overemphasize it because a woman does not want to compete with your running for your time. Women want a man who exercises enough to keep lean and healthy, but they want to be the center of your world, not competing with anything else, including running.
Try the following:
My life is fully comprised/composed/consists of running.

I kinda hate the idea that taking yourself seriously is somehow a bad thing. You have a passion for something. That's who you are. Don't hide it. Own it.
Sure, being "into fitness" might attract more women, but I would think that the point is to find one woman you click with rather than a whole bunch of women you don't click with.
Put it out there that you are passionate about running. The girls who think you're a dork weren't for you anyway.
I agree with the posters saying to keep it laid back. Girls like a guy that is cool, easy going and funny, but actually has serious hobbies/passions. It's best to not talk non-stop about it and let them learn on their own. Like "Yea he is really cool, and hes fit too, he is actually a really serious runner."
At least that's what I think they like. I'm the typical LR poster, too afraid to talk to real life women.
Did you end up meeting someone off of online?
I had a picture of me standing at the Boston finish line as one of my photos. My now husband (also a runner) said that when he was stalking my pictures, he noticed it was Boston and thought "hmm, she must be a pretty serious runner..." and he was at least interested enough to ask for a date. Make your picture a recognizable running location from a race, whether in your town or another. Any "real" runner who is serious enough will know what it is. You're welcome.
