The Brazilian Public Showed A Complete Lack of Class Toward Renaud Lavillanie

Renaud Lavillanie should apologize to apologize to Germans.

Not only was Jesse Owens not booed by the Germans but he was wildly cheered.

The German women were especially crazy about Owens because as you know, Germans have a strong case of jungle fever.

The whole Jesse Owens issue has been blown out of proportion.

the brazilian fans can do whatever the heck they want in terms of cheering/heckling/being loud, imo. who cares, if you can truly compete and perform, you shouldn't be rattled. location, fans, whatever, it's all part of the games.

and i watched the vault... i wasn't surprised that they started booing.

lavillenie started looking salty the precise moment da silva made the 6.03 vault on his 2nd try... he was no longer first in the standings, and he decided to pout like a petulant child instead of keeping his ish together and competing. unlike kendricks (who ran up to da silva and congratulated him after that completion), lavillenie didn't even look at da silva the rest of the competition, and refused to celebrate with da silva and kendricks later as they were walking around the stadium with their respective flags.

poor sport. i'd have booed him too. i didn't even know he'd compared the brazilian fans to nazis, but that'd also explain it!

If this were pro wrestling, he would have totally tried to amp up the boos, and responded by making Frenchman noises/gestures everytime the Brazilian failed.

Actually, I think one the WWE guys (Jericho?) almost got arrested by the military police for "desecrating the flag" when trying to rile up the crowd, though that might have been a different South American country.

Lavillenie apologized this morning for his comments. He was attacked all day online by Brazilian fans. He was booed loudly during the medal ceremony tonight (24 hours after the competition), as Thiago gestured to the crowd to chill out to no avail. Couldn't stop the tears on the podium as the Brazilian anthem was played.

This crowd and this country deserves the 7-1 the Germans hung on them in the World Cup and now they can enjoy the 50 years of even worse economic times that result from hosting an Olympics that should never have been awarded to them. So the Olympic Spirit is for the crowd to act like every sport is futbol (oh, that's right, that's all they know). The only thing worse than the idiot Brazilian fans are the idiot Brazilian crooks in the government that may have forever bankrupted the country by bringing the games there in the first place. No more Olympics in third world countries, please.

I have never, ever heard boos at a track meeting in the UK. And I've been to quite a few road races in the USA and find the culture just the same: everyone cheers for their friends/teams, and cheers a bit more quietly when someone else - opponents included - performs well. We embrace our rivals in this sport.

I have seen every Olympics track & field competition throughout the last 40 years, and that was easily the most horrendous display of sportsmanship I have ever witnessed! The Brazilian fans booing someone while they are receiving their silver medal is beyond reprehensible.
