We need to have less of these 'color' crap 5ks, obstacle 5ks and other gimmick events. You want a gimmick? Full contact 5k. I might not be able to break 15 anymore but at 6'1" and 210# I can pummel the hell out of people like I couldn't when I was a wisp of an athlete. Can I keep up with the Kenyans? Yes - Long enough to put a handful of them in the ICU. Distance running is like my sex life. It lost it's spice a long long long time ago. A full contact 5k would be way better than any of these color runs, hot dog eating contests or 'mud runs' that make up summer months these days.

Why not running 'roller derby style' racing as a more exciting format?

The US relay team would still not get the baton around the track…but it would not matter as much as it does now.

The US runners would almost all (except Galen) do better in this style of racing.

Think of how much better Ben True would do in a 5K or 10K.

Who would become the new top male and female middle distance and distance runners in this new exciting format for the 2017 Summer Take Down Track Seriesâ„¢?

One thing you notice is that while doing this Ethiopians lose touch with the rest of the surroundings including other runners except the heels of their "target" athlete. They simply get "drunk". Kenyans have realized this of late and used that knowledge to their advantage. Like at the World half marathon championships this year where Karoki and Kamworor decided to split, making the Ethiopian(Tamirat Tola) undecided on who of the two to follow. Kamworor and Stanley Biwott did the same thing for Lelisa Desisa in the NYC marathon last year and its definitely working. It works easier with two athletes cooperating. But in 2013 Stephen Kiprotich single-handedly applied the same trick on Lelisa Desisa in Moscow(from 2:06 hours onward).

I know it is cruel but lets face it, these guys just want to reap where they do not sow by outkicking you when you have done all the pace work on your own. So in my next race if I was to face an Ethiopian with such devilish tactic, I would run straight towards a hard brick wall or barbed-wire fence then turn just before hitting it! My friend will burst his head onto the brick wall or if barbed wire, would be stuck there for half an hour trying to undo himself hehehehe! That is a real taste of his soup!

That is incredible. To know your competitors so well that you can count on them following you INSTEAD of the course is the very definition of preparation. That's a gold medal effort.

Kiprotich weaving all over the road with moron Desisa trying to follow was hilarious. Desisa looked dizzy when Kiprotich then kicked away.

It's time to stop inviting all of these drugged up Africans. Stop taking care of them where they are rich in their countries and Americans live so poorly.

I'm not interested in watching these races and that doesn't help sponsors advertising their products.
