Water running down walls when toilets flush, no lights in stairwells, exposed lighting. What official would allow the athletes to go in there when it is dangerous? What if something happened?
Hopefully the issues can be fixed so they can move in.
They should tell the IOC to pound sand. What are they gonna do? Invade Brazil?

There is much more money to be made in less developed nations.
The IOC is making a killing on these games. There are performance guarantees that Rio did not hit that result in a payout to the IOC. The IOC keeps the profits, and shifts the costs to the local government. London Games cost Londoners over 1 billion pounds. And that was a successful production! Rio will probably pay 2-3 times that.

Wrong! Australia will not be living in the athlete's village. According to Kitty Chiller, they have found alternate lodging for the duration of the games.
And what happens if the oly village is too unbearable to live in? Where will athletes stay? I am sure all hotels are booked. Commute from other countries? What a cluster f@$k.

Exactly, 3rd world countries are that way for a reason. Banana Republic is a term that exists because of crap countries like this.
Vancouver's downside are the pissy Vancouver people , and the over rated Whistler resort. It should be Calgary , with additional revenue coming from Ontario and Quebec. If Ontario and Quebec do not agree, Alberta should cut off all oil and gas supplies to astern Canada.
LA is not such a good idea, given that it sits directly on the San Andreas Fault. The quakes of recent memory have been mostly small. Larger ones will occur in the future, and they could be Dwayne Johnson-esque. Tokyo is equally vulnerable. In 1923 it was completely destroyed by an earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0, which caused both a firestorm that burned the city to the ground and a 40-foot Tsunami. Faults lock and load very slowly, over timespans far longer than human lifetimes. If you're going to put billions of dollars of "permanent" infrastructure in a particular place, it's a good idea to consider that place's history of seismic activity.

Rio Olympics look to be the equivalent of kindergarten parks and rec soccer. Everyone gets equal playing time even though some players are clearly much better than others. Meanwhile you have players that say they want to be in the game until coach puts them in, then they just stand in the corner afraid of the ball.
Fairness and equal playing time is great for kids. Fairness and equal playing time never works well when it comes to international events.
Rather than doing some legitimate due diligence into the potential ability of a country to host a quality event the IOC feels the need to put the ball on the tee and let anyone step up to take a swing.
New rule:
Olympics can only be held in Western Europe, Japan, Australia, or the United States.

I read an article a few years ago where it was proposed that the games be awarded to countries rather than cities so that existing facilities can be primarily used and also provide more viewing experiences for the citizens.
For the USA:
Track and field in Eugene
Soccer - multiple sites
Swimming - Indy
Boxing - Vegas, folks will bet no matter the locale
Gymnastics - anywhere
and so on.
