Rupp goes home devastated!!

Devastated?! More like a good workout in his preparation for the Olympic double. I will say he's got some work to do if he wants to kick for the podium in the 10,000.

Agreed. Only on loser's rant would there be "Rupp goes home devastated" on the MB (and listed on home page) AND not "Hill/True go home devastated" - Rupp wins two events and Hill and True totally bomb. This place is such a joke (there's even a MB link on home page for something about True in 2020 - hahahaha).

Yep. Wins his 8th straight 10000 title, and is the only US distance runner to qualify (and win, for chrissake) in two races. (Though Infeld still has a pop at qualifying in two). Then has the guts to go for it with a mile to go in his third event.

And we get the typical LRC clowns telling him how he should train blah blah blah. Un-be-friking-leivable

Of course this was a scheme. In the post-race interviews, Rupp said he was pushing pace based on a pre-race plan to pull people out to get them tired - in order to get Jenkins into the games. He outright said that but then went on to say "some days you don't have it". BS. He had it. He could have beat Lagat. He had no intention of going to the OG in the 5000 and was trying to help Jenkins get in - which he almost did. When the passed him with 300 to go, he didn't even try to respond. That's not Rupp.

Of course. Best analysis yet of what "happened". I do wish True had made the team. I don't know whether Rupp was trying to somehow help the others or what, but it was a strange race. I had totally forgotten about Lagat.

Very disappointed with the way this played out for people like True and Ryan Hill. Shit.

As a result of Ben true Ryan hill mediocrity yesterday.

Rupp didn't have to race and expose himself to getting beat by lesser runners, but I'm glad he did.

Shorter raced two miles to the marathon in his day, a lot of wins and some hard fought losses.

Like it or not Rupp is the greatest distance runner of this generation, I'm glad he shows up and pins it in to race .

Exactly. Ripped tried to lure out a few to die off for Jenkins to pick off but the group was too scared to go any earlier and Jenkins came up a little short.

If Rupp wants to compete at a high level he needs to focus on one event, not two, and not three. That is what was obvious from the 5k. Father Time said hello to Rupp real hard.

Looks to me like he's focusing on the marathon with all that mileage. He really ran the 10k like a marathoner. The 5k was almost like a workout. He's clearly not making it a priority.

That was obviously done intentionally. I'm convinced now that he had no interest in actually winning this thing or taking a spot. You could see that he gradually let the pack catch up in an effort to get Jenkins a spot. He couldn't just walk off the track. So if you let the pack gobble him up on the last lap which is what you typically see in races anyway.

Wrong. If Rupp collapsed intentionally he would have moved out to lane 3, and not clogged up lane 1 and force Jenkins to run around him.

NO disrespect but Rupp is not even CLOSE of being the greatest distance runner of this generation. I hate to admit it but it's Farah not Rupp. Rupp has never won an international race whether it be wc/og or diamond league races.

I can't stand Alberto Salazar.

Galen is OK…but not really great like Kenenisa Bekele or Bernard Lagat.

(The tape he has stuck all over himself is still stupid and silly. I am 100% sure that is another of Alberto's almost infinite number of stupid ideas.)

Everybody always complains about Galen showing no guts. They say "he does not go for it".

Galen did go for it in the 5k.

Many people then ran by Galen to the finish.

He did not have good closing speed (e.g. Bernard Lagat).

It did not work out for Galen in this race.

In conclusion:

Galen Rupp had a lot of guts in that race and did go for it.

Rupp ran an AWESOME RACE!!! OT FULL THON CHAMP/10k CHAMP pushing the pace and almost WINNING the OT 5000m!!

I've been a track fan since the 90s. We've never had a runner come that close to tripling. Not Kennedy/Webb/ritz/hall/solinsky/lagat.

We're watching the US DISTANCE GOAT in his PRIME!!!

But why was he even running? He should be training not racing!!!~

Yes, Rupp ran that race to help his fellow elf-boy to make the team. He wanted to have someone smaller and elfier than him to room with in scary Brazil. Now what will he do!?
