No kidding.
A lot of posters here are too young to remember Regina Jacobs throwing down times in her late-30s that were waaaay too good to be true -- but everyone said:
"She was always fast" and
"Training has advanced" and
a few dozen other excuses.

Lagat beats Bekele in sub 13 race with 51.5 final

I remember this race....That has to be the fastest sub 13 last lap.
I wonder if that race was what determined Bekele's race plan in the Beijing 5,000m

And those of us that aren't too young have to always remind you dummies that it is not comparable as Jacobs was running her lifetime beats at that age. Lagat is clearly not running his best.

Well, no. Technically Centro is THE MAN.

This is a good point. And to add, there is no comparison to their characters and reputations. To mention Lagat and Jacobs in those terms would be a complete insult to Bernard.
Jacobs was not a good ambassador to the sport and was arrogant and cocky while trying to pass off as a hard working and amicable competitor. All the while she knew she was cheating the sport and her fellow competitors.
Lagat has been gracious and appreciative of all his great races and achievements. It would be a shame if he were dirty but we don't have any good reasons to believe that to be the case.
He said that his 200's are still fast and it's not like he did that off of a fast pace. It would have been a different story had the pace been faster. His mechanics are still perfect and he had some oxygen to work with in the end.
I have some oceanfront property in Kansas I'd like to sell to anyone who believes Lagat is clean.

Actually we do.

Double standards.
What?! No. Lagat, he is our Kenyan . Those other two guys? Huh, please. They're just here for the freedom. Fvck those guys
You guys clearly haven't been around very long. The posts on the Army team right now are nothing compared to what was said about Lagat on these boards when he changed citizenship. It went on for years.
If the pace is slow then Lagat will make the team.
Rupp really needs to go out hard from the gun or run like he did in the 10k.
Others there will be many guys that can and will outkick him in a slow race.

Agreed.
It is my hope that this becomes known as the "PED era", before things change dramatically for the better.
I was at the race yesterday. I can't bring myself to cheer for Lagat, no matter how winning his smile or personality may be. Nor can I cheer for tons of other guys that many of us suspect. I love track and field, and running in general. I'd stop at any local high school to watch some races. But this? It's all tainted.
No matter what you think about Lagat or anyone else, we should all demand that the sport we love is clean. If we can't effect change at the global level, lets at least try to ensure our athletes are clean. Any suggestions?? Maybe it's naive, but at 37 I can't believe that the future of this sport will be dirty athletes against dirty athletes, at all levels of competition.

He's had an A-sample positive before.

He's had an A-sample positive before.
Which was confirmed to have been grossly mishandled and the B-sample negative.
How is Lagat dirty or tainted?

I agree 100%. There is no way in hell that Lagat is clean. He was already caught doping once, years ago...

Please provide details. I'm aware of the false positive A sample, but no positive sample.
I really don't care who's doping. All elites probably are. Their choice. I like to see fast times.

All Rupp needs to do is make the race fast, which he should do since he's lacking speed. This will drop old man EPO...er, Lagat, no matter how much doping he's been doing.
