Seriously those 10k guys aren't even American, they shouldn't even be aloud to compete. Am I the only one who feels this way?
They literally were paid to convert to American citizenship to run for the US, seriously embarrassing.
Agree.
My wife and I were watching and said the exact same thing.
Tax payers paying for Africans to run and gain citizenship more easily.
As a tax payer, who asked me to have my money spent in this way?
Oh yes, our government knows how to spend my money better than I do.
What a slap in the face to our US born athletes and those immigrants who legitimately try to gain US citizenship through proper lengthy channels.
I am disgusted.
So running fast is a critical skill that the Army needs to recruit for and should be a fast track criteria for citizenship?
This is another group recruiting for publicity and spending tax payers dollars for image and not critical skills that could be critical to potentially saving the lives of thousands of "non-elite" recruits that enrolled without the special treatment of an elitist program like WCAP which is totally unnecessary.
70% of these posts are the same person complaining under a different name...I doubt this opinion reflects the majority of LRC community. I served for 21 years and I ran with some of the WCAP guys years ago. I wasn't good enough to make the team. WCAP is a great program and these runners are legitimate Soldiers and Americans. Get over it.
Why is it a requirement that immigrants must suffer and have sub-optimal outcomes? Why do they have to go through a decade long hazing ritual to prove their sincerity?
The benefit to the US and the Army is the success of these guys will attract other East Africans into the program - the majority of which don't even run.

As another poster said there are a lot if Kenyans in the MAVNI program and they are deployed. They bring experience and expertise to bear.
If some think that the US would be better served by sending guys who can barely break 29 to the Olympics, then you deserve what you get.

The only embarrassment here is you. Get bent.

You're retarded.
Can't wait to see how well these guys do in the Olympics. It is unbelievable that more American athletes don't take advantage of the opportunity that the military offers. With all the benefits, these guys are getting way more than most "professional" track athletes. While they could be sent back to a regular unit if they fail to perform the chances are remote.

Kid, you are a disgrace.
Entitled basement dweller.

Citizenship. You must have a green card before enlist. Meaning you already have some sort of lawful reason to be in USA for example lawful perm resident. This is a several year process to get a green card....
This isn't true. I know a kid who quit college and enlisted. Very much doubt he had a green card. They promised him he would get expedited citizenship-- something like a few months. International runners are abusing the college system so they can come to America and stay in America some how (Army, marriage, by continuing to take minimal college courses).
What is more embarrassing is the dichotomy between what the US Army (or any military branch of any nation) professes and what it actually does.
The only Kenyan in the military who's embarrassing is the commander-in-chief! #MAGA
not exactly. wrote:

You "very much doubt he had a green card". In other words, you don't actually know, just like you don't actually know what you're talking about.
FYI for all the morons like not exactly:
http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthemilitary/a/enlcitizen.htm
"In order to join the US Military, you must either be a US citizen, or you must be a legal permanent immigrant, physically living in the United States, with a green card."
Who is stupid now? You think you know everything. Dumb American
MAVN is an extremely limited program for licensed docs with certain foreign language skills. This is not the usual route for immigrants to join the Amy
And swahili is among the language. Do you happen do know who speaks that lamguage? And by the way most of the soldiers are part of special force aND Kenyans too

Can you prove causality? Is the payment that good? From what I gathered the wcap is not favorable for track and field athletes who have those standards. It seems you have it backwards. Rather the Kenyans used this as a way to get American citizenship.

The embarrassing fact is that foreign nationals are more willing to serve in the United States Army than your typical LRC poster.
To the Kenyans, I say congrats on being an American.
To the rest, I say its time to reinstate the draft.
Feelings are the same wrote:

Because American's pay so much in taxes. If tax money going toward army athletes is your greatest concern then you have your priorities messed up.
