In a recent thread, a poster translated the Amharic news report that Tariku and Kenenisa were both shortlisted for the Olympic 10k team.

We have 2 fast guys named Bett, plus Ibrahim Jeilan. I wonder if Jeilan is fit? And Choge is running. Is he ready for a 10K? AND Stephen Sambu, will he be pacemaking?

This is no cakewalk for Farah.

Anyone who speculates that Jenkins will beat Rupp in the 10 at the trials, uh, I don't think so.

Not necessarily surprised, but I don't expect either to really contend. Tadese hasn't been doing too badly ... 59:24 for 3rd in New Dehli, back in November, and 60:31 for 2nd, more recently (Istanbul, winning time was 60:16).

Pretty solid but I'm not sure how they might translate to a track 10K.

Tariku on the other hand has been out of it, as far as I can tell. Moved to the roads; ran a 61:39 half at the Great North run in 2014, dropped out of his marathon debut in Tokyo, last year ... not seeing any results since then.

10,000m races with Tadese are usually fast ones

mo shoud win & if he hasn't got 26'30 - 26'40 he shoud be slapped

it's a pity Kamwo isn't running the 10k here as his x-country shows absolutely sensational shape

his coach reckoned last year he couda run 3'32 in peking shape & probably quicker now

that x-country of ~ 59-flat is difficult to quantify, but the fall at start cost him ~ 58-mid

the appalling weather cost at least 1/2 minute, so that gets it down to 58-flat

finally, a track is perfect surface to run on, & i woud knock off another 1/2 minute off above for run on track in perfect 0 wind weather, so ~ 57'30

the nearest line of fit for 3'31+ & ~ 57-mid is

51.75 / 1'48.25 ->

3'31.05 !

4'46.32 !!

7'19.90 !!!

12'35.05 !!!

26'09.48 !!!

57'26.13

if the meet organisers had some sense, they woud try to organise pacers for 12'40 pace to 3k, which is 2'32/5'04/7'36 & let Kamwo blast that last 2k providing big $$$ bonus on the line for say a < 12'40

his cardiff shape was likely 3k/5k/10k wr shape & he shoud be close to it for his 1st serious track race of year

I am hoping Mo gets beaten in this race. Tired of his Mobot crap.

Do think that 57:30 is a bit overrated, a track is usually slower at anything over 10k. Look at the 20k road vs 20.000m track records.

That kamworor can run sub 12:40, don't think that happens, with that shape he would crush Farah with ease.

Think his line of performance is more like

3:32 - 7:25 - 12:45 - 26:20 - 58:10 the shape he was in during WC half marathon.

Could be wrong, but don't see him being is the same 5000m shape as bekele in his prime, of komen in 3000m top shape.

Any way to watch this without paying for USATF plus?

Hasn't Jenkins run 13:03 for 5000?

With improvement since then, he could do quite well at the trials in both events.

I'd really love to see EJ get dragged to a fast time here. I hope the pace is solid. I think he's ready to get under 13:00 for 5000, but not sure about 27:00 yet given his RELATIVELY low lifetime aerobic development but would be delighted to be proven wrong.

Prediction: winning time is 26:56, EJ is 27:06

On paper, I agree with you.

In execution, based on the past 5 years, I couldn't disagree more.

I can just see it now. Pacemakers drop out. Mo slows it down. (Why even have pacemakers since no one actually plans to race a full 10,000 meters.. Why even have a 10k?) Mo blazes 400-800m. Wins in 27:05.

I hope I'm wrong. But after half a decade and a litany of disappointments I'm convinced no one intends to race fast times anymore. Except maybe Kamworor.

Ehhh...maybe I"m being greedy but not much for me to get excited about here. Mo racing a bunch of guys past their best days. I'll take Farah over Edris. I suppose Rop can be a bit of a wildcard and may make it interesting. Hoping Jeilan proves me wrong.
