Actually no, it had nothing to do with the Trials. As I said in my previous post, he asked for 18-4, but upon re-measuring it was discovered they actually accidentally set it to 18-4.75.
He's still a ways away from the OT standard. 5.65m is the automatic qualifying mark and he's at 5.60m:

I hadn't seen the story about the measurement after the clearance. Interesting. I thought you measured records before the jump then after the bar is replaced on a miss, measuring after a make should not be done. Did they forget to measure prior to the attempt?
My first thought was, "why is he going to South Dakota?" Then I saw the girl and thought that she might be his girl friend. That might explain the 18' 5" jump!
However some posters claim that is not the case. He only threw her off because happened in public. Guaranteed he would not do that in his bedroom!

He did ask for it to be put at 18-4, but after he cleared the height they re-measured for record purposes and it was actually 18-4.75. This did get me wondering how often in competition standards are actually put at the wrong height. They only re-measure for record purposes.

Agreed. I started the thread not to shame her, but because I thought the whole thing was funny (especially how he threw her off). But I did think to myself how I might have been embarrassed and annoyed by the whole thing if I was him.
In her defense, it's exactly the kind of thing many high school girls would do. Counting against her is that she's actually a freshman in college and probably should have known better.
Soon enough, in ten years or so, it'll be about "them" and possibly their kids. Actually, most likely it'll be about him and some other girl (or maybe a guy or a trans if he goes that direction).

My thought as well. If I were him, I would want to get off the mat as quickly as possible to make sure the vault was legal (rule is as long as you are on the mat, there is a risk, correct?).
