Not in my viewing. There were two runners (one being the rabbit) that Ahmed was trying to pass. The rabbit gave no indication he was going to swing wide other than glancing over his shoulder. Ahmed went wide to get around the rapidly slowing rabbit and then started cutting back in when he saw the rabbit going so wide. He then unfortunately caught the rabbit's foot. This is 99% the rabbit's fault.
Also why was he following the pacer out into the second lane? DQ? No way.
Duh, fool, the pacer forced him to go wide. Pacer is 100% at fault.

What is sad and pathetic is that you give a highly uncharitable interpretation to my original post despite my regard for Slagowski's "great mile run" as I wrote there. I do not want to get Slagowski's mark thrown out. But would you not be upset if the rabbit fouled you when you were running, reportedly, at a near-PR pace? I think coaches and athletes can learn from this and the sport can be improved.
I don't think it's anything more than a kid who probably has never rabbited a race before and simply didn't know what to do (granted I think it was a pretty dumb idea to step off in outer lanes versus cutting into the infield). I think the kid probably should have run an extra like 20 or 30 meters so he could step off on the curve to ensure that he didn't screw anyone over. I feel like he also didn't expect the rest of the field to be so close. Hopefully he doesn't pace anymore races. I feel like Slagowski probably could have run his 3:59 by himself to be honest...given that he went out in 2:03 and looked super relaxed.

The runner who was tripped was in lane two. He was there because he was right on the shoulder of a guy in lane 1.
The pacer was in lane one when his pacing duties were done. He should have stepped off to the inside.
Failing that, he should have surged ahead a bit while drifting out. He should have not started to slow until he was in lane 4 at least. The problem is he moved to lane two and then slowed dramatically, so his stride got really long, so the guy trying to run on somebody's shoulder went right into his outstretched leg.

The Moroccan 1992 Olympic champion's performance was discredited for the antics of a fellow lapped Moroccan. And for a while that Moroccan Olympic champion, Salah Hissou, was disqualified due to the actions of his "rabbit".
It wasn't Salah Hissou, it was Khalid Skah (and the affected competitor was Richard Chelimo). Hardly the same scenario, I think...
