unless you have a long second toe (ie 2nd toe longer than big toe), then altras don't work. I ran into that problem - your 2nd toe will rub badly and get jammed up on the front of the shoe. you can size up, but then they're just too long and not functional for running...most shoes i've liked for wide midfoot (asics hyperspeed 3-6, brooks launch 1) have been discontinued, so i too continue the search. the problem with width shoes is i have a narrow heel, so they don't work. asics hyperspeed 7 isn't perfect, but it's pretty good compromise between a decent fit in heel and enough room in the mid-forefoot. it also seems to be going towards a trainer rather than a racing flat (more material under foot and flex gimmicks), which is a shame.

Actually the Altras are shaped like a natural human foot. We've been led to think feet should be shaped like "stylish" shoes, with tapered toes, toe spring, and raised heels. These stylish shoes are the reason for almost all feet problems.
