Mariah - Light, smooth, great ride looked good

Walt Chadwick may want to write in on this one, but I had him make my ex wife a pair of spikes in the early 80's. I asked for a flexible spike plate, wide toe box, cushioning in the heel, and a waffle sole. I wanted air in it as well, but it couldn't be done at that time. He made them in her UTENN colors with aher name on the back in place of gthe NIKE. Very col and very functional. Everyone wanted a pair! Variations on that became the cross country and numerous other shoes. Walt was the man when it came to designing shoes!

I have also worn the Mariahs, Spiridon, and Sock Racer (the worst of the bunch). Several more Asics racers that I can't recall...
I liked the Nike Niobe...no frills, just a foam midsole and a cloth upper.
They could have used a better outsole (no traction)
Currently I like the Streak Spectrum, the one with the flames on it. I have done almost two years of races in those and they're still good to go.

Nike Eagle great for 10K and less. Had good success with Nike Terra T/C for longer races, but it was more of a trainer. Had great success in training with the Original Nike Huarache, best shoe ever for those with chronic Achilles problems.
1. Nike American Eagle (red, white and blue ones) my first racing flats
2. Nike Air Streak, the original ones circa 1995 -- the one with the big Japanese symbol on the tongue
3. Nike Air Triax TC+, 2001. A trainer/racer.
For me it would be the Adidas marathon 80's, felt just like a track spike in a road racing shoe. And second would be the Nike American eagles, the red, white and blue ones.
Almost forgot
4. Nike Air Edges. About 7 ounces and the toughest damn racing flats I ever wore. Lasted through 4 years use in 2 college track workouts per week.

Brooks Hasty and also another pair of Brooks I think called the Plume. Got them when I first got picked up by Brooks in the 94. At first I thought they were too light. Boy was I wrong. I also almost bought a pair of Street Demons, but believe it or not my Brooks rep talked me out of them.
I also had a pair of Brooks demo flats given to me by a Brooks rep in 97, he had just gotten 2 pair from Japan, looked a lot like the Demon's but more of a heal. Great shoe, but they never marketed them.
My all time favorites were the New Balance that were burnt orange and red with the white N. The sole was brown and had little suction "fingers" that grabbed whatever you were running on like glue. That was in the late 70's early 80's. Won a few races in those suckers. Ugly as sin, but great shoes.

Nike Air Sock Racer, 1987 I believe. Yellow and black slip on...that shoe was sweet!!
I'm definitely over 40:
1. Adidas Marathon 80 (I ran in the reissue on treadmill last night).
2. Tiger Ohbori
3. The original Nike Waffle Racer (the road racer, usually blue with yellow stripe).
I'm not sure why, but all the newer flats seem to have less supportive uppers and less road feel than these older shoes.

Yep, Loved the waffle racer at the time. Wonder what it would feel like now?
Also, I LOVE the very first Mizuno Wave Spacer that came out about 4 years ago. They didn't make many, and I couldn't find it in stores or on the internet. I bought it at the Boston Marathon expo from some dealer, and they only had a couple of pairs. I use them very limitedly because I can't find anything else today that I like.
