The critical aspect of Rupp's "odometer" is no injuries. THAT is an enormous asset, along with consistent progression (or at least lack of regression). German's odometer is far lower, but the chassis has broken too many times.

Bad sign for the sport when somebody who owns maybe the biggest track and field forums in the world feels the need to make a basketball analogy to explain that a track national championship is not "low key."

Even worse when he feels the need to use a regular season college game as the analogy.

He could have just said "it's still the national championships, even if it is 'only' the indoor championships."

There is (a small amount of) money from usatf paid to the winners. Rupp's contract certainly offers a more significant payout if he wins and even more if he can win or medal at world indoors, which he has to run at indoor nationals to make it to indoor worlds.

His marathon training was much longer than a single day, so this isn't 4 weeks later than his marathon training, only than his marathon itself.

Regardless, it is hard to believe that somebody who has been training at the level Rupp has will benefit on the track from marathon training over what training he was doing. That boost usually comes to people of more modest training and has more to do with the fact that they increased their mileage significantly.

I am interested to see what he does this weekend. He is obviously not going to be on ideal shape for an indoor 3k, so the question is if his 95% is good enough for the win, and good enough to count when it really matters next weekend.

I don't think he is running in his hometown out of charity. A certain large company with a vested interest in him also has a vested interest in meets continuing to go to that town.

I agree. I don't think anyone in the 10000 is likely to be banned. I have never heard a thing about any of the contenders and their times are not that great by historical standards. The USADA investigation has been going since 2013. Will it ever end or just never closed? 2 questions:1. Do you guys care more about allegations against NOP (which are basically just against Rupp, right) than what is going on with Ethiopia and Kenya? The latter seems like a big story for the sport yet you seem less invested in the topic.2. Is Yeah it's me or Rupp certified Saladbar a name you or the other mods use to keep discussion going? Seems like it sometimes.

Why would 'some of his contenders likely be banned?" Please explain the logic behind that statement. There is an ongoing USADA investigation of Rupp's training group. I'd say the odds of anyone being banned above him aren't any greater than him being banned.

Bad news Rupp fans: It appears Rupp is human as his coach admits the buildup has been difficult.

"It's been a quick turnaround," Salazar said. "There have been ups and downs. Now we'll have three days of rest and see what happens."

Good news Rupp fans: There will only be one heat at USAs for the 3k.

1. We knew it was going to be a quick turn around. So nothing new there.

2. Every cycle of training has it's level of ups and towns, to some degree.

Salazar essentially told the press nothing, that couldn't have been predicted by knowledgeable marathon vets, as soon as Rupp crossed the line winning the OT's.

As always, for the past decade plus, there's all the naysayers and doubters ideas, and then there's what happens on race day. It's no longer the days of a Rono or a blood doped Viren, so sometimes it works out, sometimes not quite.

It's why we follow the sport.

Enjoy it.

I gots no predictions, no worries, just going to enjoy the bread and circus.
