Exactly. At worst, you'd think he could go 3:55.00, which is what Fernandez ran (albeit completely solo) as a freshman.

Great runs for both guys. McGorty strikes me as a similar runner to Hunter, more of a 3k/5k guy. Hunter mentioned not having enough 800m speed to run 3:53. I don't think McGorty can run much faster than 1:50, probably just under. Would not be surprised to see Hunter run something similar outdoors.

I really do not understand what York and McGorty were thinking. Why would you run a 3:53 (5 seconds faster than the next runner) when Nationals are less than two weeks away? This seems like typical University of Washington coaching, but that does not explain McGorty. Unless these guys opt out and run the 3K, they are likely to blow up at nationals--too much too soon, and as they say, run fast early, run slow late.

You guys throw out the term "beast" to quite a few runners when they're actually skinny runts. This guy Yorks is a true beast. Just look at his frame - he could be a rugby player if he wanted to. His form even would resemble a beast. Loping strides.

LOL. I hope you're not serious. Yorks is still, by virtually every definition, scrawny. He just has ever so slightly more muscle mass/definition in his shoulders than your average waif distance runner.

"Rugby player"? He'd get torn to shreds by any female rugby player.

both took more than half a second of the american collegiate record...probably doesn't count since it's on an over-sized track though?

What you saw here, Gentlemen, was two athletes driving one another to the line in a goddamn footrace!

One can hope that Fisher is preparing for three hard rounds in the 1500m at the Olympic trials. Ryun made the team in 1964 in high school and Liquori finished 12th in Mexico City - at 19 he was the youngest person to participate in the Olympic 1500 meter final.

On top of solo, Fernandez also was still the age of a HS sr. by the age cut-off of almost every state.

I mentioned in a different thread this week, but the Huskies are really putting some great things together. With some solid young talent coming up, they could have some strong years coming up.

Yorks is on fire.

Gilbert is back.

Nelson is running at his highest level.

Suprising, but very exciting to see.

The Huskies have a great couple of guys spread over all of the mid-d and distance races...still not seeing much quality in their depth.

That UW indoor track is like the Monaco track of the West Coast. Add about 5 seconds to one's mile time in there to get the equivalent mile time on an average outdoor track. I'll be working out there tomorrow and probably won't time my splits because they'll give me a false sense of where my fitness is at.
