I watched that movie and it was great.
I am sick of "happy bubbly hollywood endings" so I really enjoyed that.
after the movie I was in a state of trance and I went outside and saw this homeless guy on the streets. It was raining and about 11pm. So I gave him 15 bucks, which I had never done before and otherwise had spend drinking in the pub.
Hilary's extremely beautiful, though she was not glamming it up in this film. Bue see her in some of the photo shoots she's done.
"Million Dollar baby" was the best film of 2004, infinitely better than its major competition, "The Aviator." As for Hilary "killing herself" at the end, well...she needed a bit of help to do that, which is the crux of the whole thing.
I liked the movie! Sure, it was sad at the end but the message about following your dreams no matter what was a good one. The end was definitely extreme but who's to say that any of us would feel differently if we were in that situation.

It's interesting that the last two mentions were of "Unfaithful" and "House of Sand and Fog" because as different as the two were, I had the same reaction to, the same question about, both of them. What if, instead of the carnage, the people in those films had had to actually work out the situations they were in, had to go on living with each other? Both films would have been much better.
If you want to see a really depressing movie, check out the documentary "Darwin's Nightmare."

Donnie Darko is one of the best movies I have ever seen, the music in it is just plainly amazing. In a way, it almost makes the movie...
Million Dollar Baby is one shit overrated film. Its rubbish. absolute crap.

I think you're out of your mind. (Although Lebowski is very funny, it is not one of the best movies of all time) I bet you think Metallica and Twisted sister define music and that the Redwall series is the #uno in literature. do you play dungeons and dragons as well?
I saw this in the middle of a 5 hour plane ride. After it was over I kept trying to nudge the emergency exit opened so I could kill myself. Unforunately someone stopped me in time to catch an inflight showing of Joey. That was even more horrific.
I'm a big fan of Coen Brothers films - "Raising Arizona," Fargo," and "The Man Who Wasn't There" are all brilliant. But I never understood people who are so enchanted by "The Big Lebowski." Yeah, Jeff Bridges is great as usual, but John Goodman's character is one of the most relentlessly annoying one-note portrayals I've seen. It may be the worst film Philip Seymour Hoffman has been in.

I thought "Saving Private Ryan" was pretty depressing.
Especially that scene where the German kills the American with his own bayonet, very slowly, while speaking to him in German while the scared American translator is cowering on the stairs outside, armed to the teeth, and too frozen with fear to save his comrade.
Wish I had never seen THAT movie.
You people need to watch more drug movies....try Kids or Requiem for a Dream if you want to talk about depressing movies.
"Requiem for a Dream" has been mentioned often on previous "scariest" movie threads. Although it's not ostensibly a horror movie, it's scarier than any horror movie I've seen.
This was a really nice thing to do. TO give the homeless guy 15.00 dollars that would otherwise be wasted on something like pub. This movie was gut wrenching and I always feel so bad for Hilary. I don't want to see her in another movie where she has to play poor white trash and on the down side of the tracks. She will soon be type cast and will not be given the opportunity to play any other roles. Clint is a genius however. He has gotten old and feeble and talks with a sweet whisper. I love him to death and I think he did a good job with the movie. However, it was more than surprising as to what happens to Hilary. She sure didn't deserve this. I actually took the movie personally and was left feeling angry and upset about the boxing match. I never want the see the mean boxer girl ever again in anything. Even if she is portraying Florence Nightingale, it would not matter to me one bit. I will always remember her for this mean, ruthless character. I wanted Hil to get better and go through therapy and begin to walk and eventually box again. What betrayal!!!!!! Whew, let me go because I am getting upset all over again. As a matter of fact, I just watched the movie for the 1st time last night. I cried and can't seem to get over the end..............
