why are NOP runners running so slow?

These performances show reasonable fitness for those runners at this time.

Right now they want to be healthy and a fitness level to build on.

7 months to build on this.

They probably don't have the right fitness to run fast right now. If they were trying to run fast now, they would be tired by the time the Olympics roll around. That's a higher priority, so there's no need to be running super fast times right now.

You really don't think that NOP will be building from now to Olympics and running faster and peaking at the right time? They have always been very good at being ready at the right time, where few other Americans have.

They are very likely in the middle of their first hard training block. Hard to race well with heavy legs.

Because NOP does not ever have to worry about ever testing positive... Ever.

By Rio they'll be smashing it. It would be terrible for American broadcast ratings if they weren't. The IOC and IAAF cannot afford that.

NOP always aims for two peaks per year -- even in Olympic years. Fanboys: Stop with that lame excuse. NOP athletes have historically performed very well throughout the indoor season. What's different this year? Hmmm....

Here are the facts. Ever since the Epstein/BBC report on rampant PED use inside NOP....

-Hasay has slowed down considerably and suddenly can't recover quickly from ticky-tack injuries.

-Centro had his worst finish in championship 1500m in some time. Suspicious when a two-time medalist, in the prime of his career, can only muster an 8th place finish at Worlds. Hmmmmm.

-Rupp, who ran a 3:50 indoor mile in 2013, CAN'T EVEN BREAK 4 OUTDOORS IN PERFECT CONDITIONS.

-Rupp had his worst championship 10k performance in recent memory.

-Rupp a distant THIRD at USAs in the 5k.

-Mary Cain regresses SIGNIFICANTLY. Nowhere near world class anymore.

-Suguru Osako ... lol. Would be an average runner in the NCAA.

-Cam Levins does well indoors and at the Pre 10k, then the Epstein report comes out and he starts racing poorly.

-Treniere Moser has been average at best.

-Mo FARAH spent he summer training in Africa and was the only NOP runner who ran well at Worlds. Then he goes back to training in Portland and immediately gets killed by mediocre runner Garrett Heath.

Fanboys: These are the facts. Internet them as you will.

Suguru Osaka ran this 3k slower than his PR 5k pace, that is very odd

The way he's running now he's closer to running slower than 8min for 3000m than sub 13 at 5000m.

All of these guys are primarily just training fodder to help Rupp. Since he is currently training for a marathon they aren't 3k sharp.

Strange

In 2013, Rupp ran a 3:50 mile indoor and a 7:30 3000m indoor. He wasn't trying to peak for the WC that summer? I think he did. What is different this time around?

Garrett Heath is hardly a mediocre runner if he can beat Farah at all.

I thought Farah did well. 2nd place losing to someone peaking for the event? That's solid.

Rowbury running 8:53 is also solid.

Hasay is the one that sticks out here considering it's well below the level of top HS girls, but maybe she was sick or hurt recently.

I don't think you can fault any of this considering it's an Olympic year.

Maybe the rumors are true, but at this point I'll give these athletes the benefit of the doubt.

Someone is quite committed to opposing NOPNo time to address the cherry picking but one would never know that Rowbury ran an AR or Levjns set an NR or Rupp beat all the fresh Americans at worlds for his best 5 k place ever. Not a great year but this post is pretty silly. Did Centro PR?
