I do believe there is an NCAA rule about needing to compete within 48 hours of traveling....not sure if that is one of the reasons or if it is budgetary...my 2 cents.

MY school a DI university is leaving for two of our indoor meets two days before the meet and its not cause we are flying on cheap flights were driving. Has any one heard of leaving at such an absurd time. Do any other schools leave for track meets any where near this time. Does anyone think this is at all beneficial.
Your program is clearly short on resources so here is a RADICAL idea - skip indoor season. Yes thats right. Perhaps people should start waking up and looking at the reasons why Ritz, Webb, Rupp etc are opting out of the NCAA schedule - too many races, and programs that have an agenda that is not aligned w/ athletes long term interests.
This is a business decision that a track coach and an AD would have to make - emphasize training and resources on outdoor track (like the rest of the world does). The results might surprise everybody.
This is highly unlikely tho, as it would require planning, focus, PATIENCE, and a long term strategy - qualities that are all lacking in this sport these days.
Here's an idea. Why don't you ask your coach, rather than bitch about it on here? Unless your coach is a total jerk, I'd think he would give you a straight forward answer.
That is pretty dumb. It sounds like something Minn. Vikings coach Mike Tice would do.
What's your coaches name and number and I'll take care of this for you and everyone on the team.
i don't think he's whining. leaving at the time seems to serve no purpose whatsoever. his coach is either a dumbass or he's hittin' some coach/athlete from another team and wants to get as much "quality time" as possible.
Hope he is not fornicating or he could cause another tsunami like the one arab tv says I started.
Thats all I was saying and being my first year in college just wanted to make sure that this wasnt normal
Why not...leave...Friday...at 8 am...get to the meet that day...in the afternoon.

Right, it leads me to believe that the original poster isn't giving the full story, like HIS race (a distance final) isn't until Saturday while the prelims for the sprints, hurdles, and field events start Thursday mid-day. Sleep on the van, nimrod.

Agreed, but perhaps leaving at 12:00 a.m. on a Thursday for a Saturday meet 5-7 hours away does call for pause.
the meet doesnt start at all until saturday
